Sharia law (Islamic law) supercedes man-made law in Islam. Allah’s law reigns supreme. What I don’t understand is why the West, whose system of governance is so vastly superior and humane, is submitting the most extreme and radical ideology on the face of the earth.

As a professor at Georgetown University and Washington Post columnist, Shadi Hamid is a made guy in today’s leftist establishment, and it is from those positions of oracular authority that he has delivered a sobering message to the growing movement to ban Sharia in the United States. In the WaPo on Wednesday, he declared that Muslims should not have to assimilate into American society and should not be expected to do so, and that efforts to ban Sharia were not only bigoted and “Islamophobic,” but also futile, as Muslims simply weren’t going to give Sharia up. And he’s right about that part, albeit in the midst of being wildly disingenuous about the nature of Sharia itself.

Sharia is not merely a religious practice but a comprehensive legal and political system that he views as fundamentally anathema to the concept of individual freedom.

The Islamic call to prayer is a declaration of the superiority of Islam, a faith that directs its adherents to make war against Christians and other non-Muslims and subjugate them as inferiors under the hegemony of believers (cf. Qur’an 9:29).

The adhan (Islamic call to prayer), prayed in Arabic, repeats “Allahu akbar” six times, “I testify that there is no god but Allah” three times, and “I testify that Muhammad is Allah’s prophet” twice.

On its face, one cannot liken the shrill abrasion of the nails-on-chalkboard adhan to the ethereal grandeur of symphonic church bells. But more specifically, church bells have no verbal content. And church bells are rung one or twice a week, the Islamic call to prayer is broadcast five times a day at deafening levels beginning pre-dawn.

Not to mention what the cries of “Allahu akbar” evokes.

When people show you who they are, believe them.
