As a professor at Georgetown University and Washington Post columnist, Shadi Hamid is a made guy in today’s leftist establishment, and it is from those positions of oracular authority that he has delivered a sobering message to the growing movement to ban Sharia in the United States. In the WaPo on Wednesday, he declared that Muslims should not have to assimilate into American society and should not be expected to do so, and that efforts to ban Sharia were not only bigoted and “Islamophobic,” but also futile, as Muslims simply weren’t going to give Sharia up. And he’s right about that part, albeit in the midst of being wildly disingenuous about the nature of Sharia itself.

In a video that began circulating widely on Thursday, the Roman Catholic Cardinal Robert Sarah, Prefect Emeritus of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, stated: “Wake up. Islam is a danger. If Christians don’t start caring about our faith, Islam will take over the West. They’ll impose their laws and culture. They’ll grow massively in number. And we will decline.”

The video went viral on Wednesday: a well-fed, hijabed Muslim woman in a U.S. military uniform, smiling happily, affirmed that she would not obey orders if they involved her attacking people who were not Muslims. She is by no means the first Muslim to say this, and won’t be the last. Apparently it would be “Islamophobic” for the United States to keep disloyal soldiers out of the military.

Jalloh was “focused on conducting a Fort Hood-style massacre against the United States armed forces,” which appears to be something like the attack he carried out on Thursday. However, Jalloh “also spoke to an undercover FBI source designated “CHS1” about other potential operations, including killing a specific person. Evidence suggests the most likely target was Pamela Geller.” He fulminated against her for organizing the Muhammad Art Exhibit and Cartoon Contest in Garland, Texas in May 2015, and declared that she ought to be targeted for allegedly insulting Muhammad.

So what is unclear about Mohamed Jalloh’s motive? He was convicted of supporting the Islamic State (ISIS) in 2017 and just released from prison in December 2024. His rage at Geller over the drawings of Muhammad make his motive abundantly clear. After he was released from prison, why wasn’t he stripped of his citizenship (he was a native of Sierra Leone and a naturalized citizen of the U.S.) and deported?

Can the Islamic Republic of Iran defeat the United States? Certainly it can. It can do so in the same way that the Taliban defeated the United States in Afghanistan: by outlasting it.

Last Sunday, as a massive blizzard hit New York City, Comrade Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani posted praise of municipal workers on X: “Grateful for the public workers who keep NYC running — especially in a blizzard. The Heritage Foundation gave efforts to bring the hatred of Jews into the mainstream among patriots a massive boost on Thursday, when its president, Kevin Roberts, published a video declaring the Foundation’s stout and wholehearted support for Tucker Carlson, who has done more than anyone (with the possible exception of Candace Owens) to make Americans believe that hating Jews and wishing the worst possible fates upon them is just good old-fashioned America-First patriotism.

I am, in other words, someone who is deeply concerned about the Jews because I am deeply concerned about the human rights of all people, and I cannot stand by idly as an entire people is demonized.

That’s why I am asking you most urgently to think very carefully about Zohran Mamdani. Just as we have seen where socialism leads, so also we have seen where the large-scale demonization of the Jews leads.

Jihad al-Shamie’s name was indeed an omen. But it was an omen that the entire Western world has been trained to disregard and ignore. And so there will be many more jihads, just like the one al-Shamie carried out in Manchester, and much larger-scale operations as well. Zohran Mamdani is about to become mayor of New York, and yet a year ago, virtually no one outside of his state assembly district had ever heard of him. Back in May 2022, a Muslim identified only as Mohammed L. murdered Alban Gervaise, a 40-year-old physician, by stabbing him multiple times as Gervaise was picking up two of his children, whose ages were three and seven, from school in the venerable French city of Marseille. As he stabbed Gervaise, Mohammed repeatedly screamed “Allahu akbar,” and later explained that he committed the murder “in the name of Allah.” Mohammed L. will not, however, stand trial for murdering Alban Gervaise. He has been declared “mentally unfit to stand trial.”

The facts of the matter are straightforward. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is striking back against the Obama/Biden cultural revolution by, among other actions, renaming the USNS Harvey Milk, a Navy oil tanker, after Medal of Honor recipient Oscar V.
