If nothing else, Victor Davis Hanson is describing how the greatest country in human history was taken down so far, so fast, without much deterrence. Hanson is in brilliant form, of course, he always is. But this reads more like an explanation for future historians than for us of events that, not too long ago,  would have been inconceivable.

It’s a national eulogy.
