A long list, that recently got longer by one, with the announcement by Israel that it had killed the IRGC naval commander, Alireza Tangsiri, who among other duties had organized the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Tangsiri was a very big fish. Now he sleeps with the fishes.

Gaza’s alternative to rule by Hamas are the large families — the clans — those traditional sources of authority and power, that have re-emerged as Hamas has been battered by the IDF. The clans are organic to Gaza, unlike Arabs from outside who would not be familiar with the tribal structures that predominate in the Strip.

Israel has until now not sufficiently grasped the importance of the information war. It has allowed Hamas to run circles around it, putting out lie after lie, without the IDF ever providing a thorough, systematic, and rapid rebuttal to those calumnies.

Israel has been brilliant at fighting in Gaza, and at preserving the lives of Gazan civilians, but it has not done enough to defend its conduct of the war.
