Further proof of the status of women in the Islamic culture. And here I thought Jerry Springer was bad.

“According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, at least 150,000 to 200,000 girls in the U.S. are at risk of being forced to undergo cutting.” Female genital mutilation (FGM) or clitoridectomy is an Islamic tradition, rampant in the Muslim world. Muhammad is said to have justified it: “A woman used to perform circumcision in Medina. The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) said to her: Do not cut severely as that is better for a woman and more desirable for a husband.” (Sunan Abu Dawud 41.5251). There is also justification for the practice in Islamic law.

“Mariam Yousif, who converted to Islam to marry her husband at 16, was stabbed 14 times in a ‘brutal and frenzied’ attack inside her Wiley Park unit in 2012. Her 54-year-old husband, Yassir Hassan, was found guilty of manslaughter instead of murder because he told the court he was provoked by his wife during an argument when she ‘questioned his manhood.'” Ms Yousif’s mother Hanan Zaki “said provocation was a ‘ridiculous’ defence for her daughter’s killer.” And it is. But it’s not the first time a Muslim wife-killer has resorted to this ridiculous defense.

Valentine’s Day is banned in many Muslim countries. Exhibiting, yet again, their extra special brand of tolerance and interfaith dialogue, the Muslim war on the day of love continues with ….. stoning. While one group of students of Peshawar University celebrated Valentine’s Day, another celebrated Haya Day (modesty day) leading to a clash that turned violent. Students threw rocks at fellow students celebrating Valentine’s Day, forcing the police to intervene. Violence escalated as the students pulled out weapons and started firing at police officers as well.

Religious leaders in Uzbekistan have condemned St. Valentine’s Day as a harmful holiday that contradicts both Islam and local traditions.

Muslim Student Action Union (Kammi) urged Indonesian Muslims to avoid celebrating Valentine’s Day.

“Valentine’s Day should be strictly rejected and [not] celebrated by young people by committing immoral deeds….” Jabar Zurniawati, the head of Kammi’s women’s empowerment division, said on the sidelines of the rally, as quoted by news portal Detik.com.

The survey is hardly surprising. Muslim hate of love day is nothing new. Let’s hope that the death toll is not too high today. Valentineophobia can be vicious. Sheik Abdulla Daoud suggested that covering the babies in burqas would keep them from being raped.

Female genital mutilation (FGM) or clitoridectomy is an Islamic tradition, rampant in the Muslim world. Over 96% of the women in Egypt have been clitoridectomized. Back in 2008, devout members of the Egyptian parliament made female genital mutilation (circumcision) legal again in Egypt.

We see an increase in the misogynistic horror in Western countries with Muslim immigration. Imams state emphatically that it is an Islamic right. And a Texas Imam, Main Al-Qudah, has issued a call to action to support clitoridectomies.

I found this a fascinating read. A young, thoughtful religious Muslim woman searches for answers in Islam, questions the faith, the misogyny, hypocrisy and supremacism, and in the end cannot reconcile the contradictions and violence. “I felt objectified even more with the hijab.”

The righteous and devout imam murdered her in front of their four-year-old son. The lessons begin early in Islam.
