Minister says Turkey will one day take control of Jerusalem

ADVERTISEMENTTurkish Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi said Saturday that Turkey would one day take control of Jerusalem, making the remarks at a ruling party conference in the Turkish province of Çorum.
Speaking at a meeting of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s Justice and Development Party, Çiftçi said: “Just as we saw the liberation of Damascus, Aleppo and Karabakh, so, with Allah’s help, we will one day also see the liberation of Jerusalem.” (YNET)
And Erdogan is cashing in on his relationship with President Trump, scoring benefits from sanctions relief to dropped court cases ahead of a high-stakes NATO summit in Ankara next month.
Trump’s decision to greenlight a more than $700 million military sales package to Turkey this week — despite a pushback from some lawmakers — represents Erdoğan’s latest win in Washington. The sale is for advanced jet engines, allowing Turkey to follow through on developing its domestic fleet of next-generation fighter jets.
The dictator who persecutes political opponents, imprisons journalists, massacres Kurds, occupies the territory of Cyprus and backs jihadist groups is now attacking the Middle East’s only democracy.

ADVERTISEMENTPresident Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Saturday accused Zionism of threatening Turkey’s survival, in the latest broadside by the Turkish leader since the start of the Gaza war on October 7, 2023.
“The genocidal, occupying, expansionist ideology called Zionism threatens not only me, not only our party, not only our alliance, it threatens everyone,” Erdogan said. “When we struggle against Zionism, we are not waging this struggle for ourselves or for personal reasons. We are doing it for our own survival and for the survival of our nation.”
Such language is familiar territory for Erdogan, who has repeatedly cast Israel and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in extreme terms since the Hamas-led October 7 massacre and the ensuing war in Gaza.
He has called Israel a “terrorist state” and an “occupier,” compared Netanyahu to Hitler and Stalin, and accused the Israeli government of “genocidal methods.”
