CONFIRMED: Ilhan Omar’s Real Name Is Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, Fueling Brother-Marriage Allegations

The legal documents surrounding her immigration lay bare what the legacy press spent years scrubbing and refusing to cover.

New York Post: Prosecutors referred to the Minnesota Democrat as “Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, a/k/a Ilhan Abdullahi Omar,” in a Wednesday filing in DC federal court, which officials and legal experts said was indicative of the evidence compiled so far in an immigration fraud investigation into the “Squad” rep (New York Post).

Long-rumored as well is the allegation that Ilhan married her brother. The man she married in 2009 was Ahmed Nur Said Elmi. Yes: the same last name as Ilhan.

Ilhan Omar isn’t ‘Squad’ rep’s real name as feds’ bombshell docs give huge clue she did marry brother

WASHINGTON — The “real” name of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) has been revealed in a federal court filing with an identical surname to that of her ex-husband — and rumored brother, The Post has learned.

Prosecutors referred to the Minnesota Democrat as “Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, a/k/a Ilhan Abdullahi Omar,” in a Wednesday filing in DC federal court, which officials and legal experts said was indicative of the evidence compiled so far in an immigration fraud investigation into the “Squad” rep.

A source familiar with the investigation confirmed that Omar is not the congresswoman’s “real” last name, meaning she was born with the last name of Elmi, just like her alleged brother-husband. It’s unclear what charges could result from her purported use of an alias, which was first reported by Fox News.

The New York Post just published the marriage certificate of the sister of Ilhan Omar’s ‘brother husband’ who lived with him in the UK.

She lists their father as ‘Nur Said Elmi’ and his says he is a “military officer”.

Attorney General Todd Blanche also told The Post Thursday, “I don’t think [Assistant United States Attorneys] would make up names,” when asked about using the surname of her former spouse, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, who has been rumored to be a blood relation for more than a decade.

Previously, prosecutors and legal experts indicated that the Department of Justice was seeking to bring an indictment alleging immigration fraud that would fall within a 10-year statute of limitations.

If Omar used an alternative name — or an erroneous birth date — on immigration forms, passport renewals or other documents over the past decade, she could face charges for that action.

Omar and her staff have previously denied the accusation that she married her brother in 2009 to help him apply for a green card.

When asked directly on MS NOW on Wednesday whether she was related to her former husband, she responded: “Not to my knowledge.”

“That tells you a lot right there,” President Trump responded Thursday when asked about Omar’s choice of words.

“No, she’s — I’ve never been a big fan of her. I’ll be honest. Let’s see how it all works out. But that statement tells you a lot,” he added. The president has repeatedly threatened to jail Omar.

Omar was still legally married to Ahmed Elmi when, in August 2016, she faced questions about their possible family ties and responded with a statement categorically denying them.

“Insinuations that Ahmed Nur Said Elmi is my brother are absurd and offensive,” she said. The couple divorced in 2017.

Before marrying Elmi, Omar had been married in a Muslim ceremony to Ahmed Abdisalan Hirsi, but the pair weren’t legally joined until 2018.
Their marriage dissolved the following year, and Omar married Tim Mynett, a political consultant who had worked on one of her campaigns, in 2020.

The revelations about Omar’s identity followed new details about items being sought via a federal search warrant, as part of investigations into the congresswoman’s immigration status and finances.

DC US Attorney Jeanine Pirro’s office made the Wednesday filing to ask a federal judge to keep the search warrant sealed until it is finished being executed. The New York Times and other outlets have requested it.

The search warrant was partially executed on Oct. 12, when Homeland Security Investigations agents took the congresswoman’s cell phone, computer, a passport and other items away in evidence boxes.

The Minnesota US Attorney’s Office is also gathering evidence — including through interviews with family members and by obtaining DNA — to prove that Omar allegedly fibbed on immigration paperwork.

The congresswoman has faced questions about her immigration status since she first ran for the Minnesota state House in 2016, and federal authorities previously investigated her during the first Trump administration.

Still, questions have swirled in the second Trump administration about whether Omar misrepresented her birth data on government forms to become a naturalized US citizen or tried to help her alleged brother fraudulently obtain a green card.

Omar revealed that her birth certificate was destroyed following the upheaval in her native Somalia in the 1990s. Her family fled the nation in 1991, living for four years in a Kenyan refugee camp before emigrating to the US.

Her father, Nur Omar Mohamed, naturalized in 2000, meaning Omar would have had to be 17 years old. .

However, her birth date in Minnesota’s legislative library indicated she was at least 18 years old and wouldn’t have been eligible for naturalization — until her staff got the entry changed in 2019.

Reps for her congressional office did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Neither did Omar’s defense attorneys.
