I thought Geller Report readers would find this letter from a reader in Italy of note. He writes us these queries and observations from a distance:
I get the impression that American voters suffer from amnesia or have short memories. When Biden was in charge, he waged war on fossil fuels, and gasoline prices rose. Now there is a real war against a real enemy of America—which has caused another spike in fuel costs—yet the average voter doesn’t blame the Islamic Republic regime in Iran. No, because of their poor memories, they blame Trump instead.
Do they really think punishing Republicans is the way to solve the problem? By putting back in power the very people who, until recently, were waging war on fossil fuels? Americans seem illiterate when it comes to this. They don’t understand basic geopolitics, nor do they realize that international crises are called “crises” precisely because they can erupt suddenly and without warning.
ADVERTISEMENTIt’s not enough to simply blame the mainstream media, either, because Tucker Carlson and other morons on the isolationist right have dumbed down the Republican electorate and lowered its collective IQ.
There are other issues, too. Why does the mainstream media still get to shape the narrative? Once again, people are letting themselves get played. These outlets have been thoroughly discredited, yet they still manage to influence voters with their skewed coverage. Why?
Republicans are also making a classic mistake—one that should be avoided at all costs: allowing themselves to remain at the mercy of events. Losing control of the situation—whether in politics or in life—is one of the worst things that can happen. You have to stay in control, for instance, by pointing out that despite the rise in fuel costs and other prices, the economy isn’t actually doing that badly.
It looks like a replay of 1992, when Clinton won with a moronic slogan—despite a recession that lasted only seven months—because Bush Sr. unwisely raised taxes, and his support for NAFTA fueled Ross Perot’s candidacy, which caused him significant damage. The mainstream media shouldn’t be the ones controlling the situation.
And what about AI? I think Americans are overreacting in their opposition to data centers and AI in general. Data centers aren’t the bogeyman they’ve been made out to be. The problem isn’t AI itself, but rather the people who program and manage it.
ADVERTISEMENTTake Flock cameras, for instance: if police officers abuse the system or arrest people with perfectly clean records, you blame the individuals who misused the system—not the tool or its software.
Some people still seem stuck on Eisenhower’s warnings about the military-industrial complex and the scientific elite. Yet science has always served the cause of war, ever since humans discovered that iron made better swords than bronze. The real issue lies elsewhere: it’s called original sin. And it is truly curious that a religious man like President Eisenhower didn’t keep that in mind. The genocide in Rwanda was committed mostly with machetes.
When I look at someone like Palmer Luckey and his company, Anduril, I feel optimistic about AI. He strikes me as one of the few people in America who actually gets it.
In general, I think Americans have become truly selfish and spoiled. The morons on the Left who complain about the cost of living seem to be living in another era—as if these idiots came from shacks, the children of destitute parents and part of a brood of ten siblings, with no running water, electricity, or air conditioning. Seriously, it’s as if they want a replay of 1992.
Why does the mainstream media still have the power to shape anyone’s mind, despite being so thoroughly discredited?
