For decades this incitement to slaughter in mosques has been allowed to go unchallenged for fear of “islamophobia” (sharia law enforcement.) It’s not islamophobia, it’s islamorealism.
Any criticism of incitement to jihad (Islamic terror) that examines its ideological roots in Islam is called islamophobia, The word is used to intimidate people into thinking there is something wrong with opposing jihad terror. This deforms our response to terrorism by placing off-limits any examination of its guiding ideology, and effectively enforces Sharia blasphemy laws in the US by placing Islam, Quran, Muhammad beyond criticism.
Left-wing “journalists” like Spencer Ackerman didn’t legally “stop” mosque monitoring himself, but his journalism forced the FBI and other agencies to dismantle intelligence gathering, mapping mosques, and deploying informants. His investigative series for Wired also famously forced the FBI to undergo purge of “islamophobic”icounterterrorism training materials.
The very word “Islamophobia” is a fictional construct, as journalist Claire Berlinski explains, “The neologism ‘Islamophobia’ did not simply emerge ex nihilo. It was invented, deliberately, by a Muslim Brotherhood front organization, the International Institute for Islamic Thought, which is based in Northern Virginia….Abdur-Rahman Muhammad, a former member of the IIIT who has renounced the group in disgust, was an eyewitness to the creation of the word. ‘This loathsome term,’ he writes, ‘is nothing more than a thought-terminating cliche conceived in the bowels of Muslim think tanks for the purpose of beating down critics.’”
“Islamophobia” as Christopher Hitchens once said “a word created by fascists, used by cowards, to manipulate morons.
Sam Westrop, the head of the Forum’s Islamist Watch, published on Tuesday the Forum’s review of sermons, lectures and prayers at the Islamic Center of Detroit, the mosque on Tireman Avenue: more than 400 examples of violent or extremist speech from video the mosque itself posted over three years, 44 of them in one reel (Focus on Western Islamism). The prayer leaders ask God to “eradicate them from existence,” to “orphan their children as they orphaned ours, and demolish their homes as they demolished ours,” and to “destroy the state of the Zionists, O Allah, destroy them utterly”; one asks for “victory to our mujahideen brothers stationed in Gaza.” Other speakers voice support for convicted terrorists and praise jihad.
Federal spending records list the Islamic Center of Detroit as the recipient of about $45 million in pass-through grants since 2017, almost all of it Agriculture Department child-nutrition money routed through the Michigan Department of Education. The largest entry is a single subaward of $31,006,670 dated December 2, 2021, under the state’s National School Lunch Program grant, the largest of the 1,492 on that grant (USAspending.gov). Health and Human Services refugee money reached the center through the state’s labor department in two $500,000 entries, dated October 1, 2024, and October 1, 2025 (USAspending.gov). The mosque says on its website that it has served more than 150,000 meals a week at 13 sites since the pandemic began (ICD); the entry does not say which program the money paid for, and the Forum has filed Freedom of Information Act requests to find out.
Karen Whitsett, a Democratic state representative from Detroit, asked the legislature for $7.5 million for the center in the 2026 state budget (Michigan Capitol Confidential). The center has filed no federal nonprofit return since 2003; the IRS designates it a religious institution, a category exempt from filing (ProPublica). The Forum’s text names no speaker; the Washington Free Beacon has named the head imam, Imran Salha, who told a rally days after Hamas’s October 7, 2023 attack that Muslims have a “fire in our hearts that will burn that state until its demise” (Washington Free Beacon). Neither the mosque nor the agencies had answered in public by this afternoon.
The Middle East Forum has meticulously documented over 400 instances of violent and extremist rhetoric at the Islamic Center of Detroit. This alarming discovery includes calls for violence against Israelis and commendations for jihadist fighters. Such rhetoric, often expressed in Arabic, underscores a persistent and alarming trend.
Violent rhetoric exposed: Among the 44 clips identified, some of the most shocking examples are drawn from public videos posted by mosque officials. These clips reveal imams and prayer leaders making aggressive appeals for the annihilation of Israelis and supporting jihadist ideologies.
- Examples include: Statements like “O Allah, count them, kill them one by one, and leave none of them” and “Eradicate them from existence” highlight the severity of the rhetoric.
Taxpayer funding concerns: Since 2017, the Islamic Center has received over $45 million in federal funding, primarily through the Department of Agriculture’s USDA programs. This support raises significant questions about the allocation of taxpayer dollars.
- Largest grant: In late 2021, the Biden administration authorized a substantial $31 million grant under the “National School Lunch Program,” making it the largest grant to a single Muslim nonprofit.
Federal funding details: Analysis by the Middle East Forum reveals that this $31 million grant is unprecedented in its size for American Muslim nonprofits. Such funding is part of a broader pattern of governmental support, raising concerns about oversight and accountability.
- Additional funding: The extremist mosque also received $500,000 from the Department of Health and Human Services during the latter part of the Trump administration, adding to its funding.
Lack of financial transparency: Despite receiving substantial federal funding, the Islamic Center has not filed a tax return since 2003, exploiting an IRS rule that exempts “churches.” This lack of transparency complicates efforts to track the use of taxpayer funds.
- Current investigations: There are ongoing investigations with multiple Freedom of Information Requests filed to uncover how such significant amounts of taxpayer money were allocated to a mosque with known extremist ties. Congress too, we hope, will want answers.
