Ilhan Omar campaigned With socialist Nazi Hasan Piker; ‘The normalization of antisemitism’
New York Post reports: Embattled Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) joked with Hasan Piker that the media is fixated on her because of her “good” looks this past Monday ahead of a controversial event with the far-left antisemitic streamer. Omar made the remark during Piker’s livestream of his green-room couch conversation with the “Squad” rep before they took the stage at the event hosted by socialist Minnesota state lawmaker Omar Fateh. “I feel like the media has a tendency, you know, to highlight everything that you do,” Piker told Omar during their chummy conversation…. “Ilhan Omar knows exactly who Hasan Piker is and what he has said,” John Nagel, Omar’s GOP opponent in her midterm election race, fumed on X. Nagel highlighted some of Piker’s most outrageous commentary, including his belief that “America deserved 9/11” and that he’d vote for Hamas over Israel “every single time.” “This is not outreach. It is the normalization of antisemitism, support for terrorists and contempt for America,” Nagel argued, demanding that prominent state Democrats disavow Omar’s appearance with Piker (New York Post).
“America deserved 9/11.” Hamas over Israel “every single time.” That is Hasan Piker’s public record—and Ilhan Omar chose to campaign with him. The Minnesota congresswoman appeared alongside the socialist streamer at an event hosted by state lawmaker Omar Fateh, laughing with him backstage and joking about her looks. Apparently, contempt for murdered Americans and declared support for Hamas leave plenty of room for friendly campaign banter.
A congressional appearance confers legitimacy. Omar gave Piker hers. His statements earned him no exclusion, no public reckoning—just a shared stage with a sitting member of Congress. Her Republican challenger, John Nagel, called it “the normalization of antisemitism, support for terrorists and contempt for America.” The indictment fits: Omar is helping make rhetoric that should be politically disqualifying an accepted feature of Democratic campaigning.
The backlash inside the Democratic Party is now the story. When Rep. Ilhan Omar went ahead with Monday night’s sold-out Minneapolis appearance with streamer Hasan Piker, hosted by state Sen. Omar Fateh — and it was fellow Democrats, not Republicans, who led the charge against it.
Fox News: Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., is set to share the stage with far-left streamer Hasan Piker on Monday night despite mounting opposition from fellow Minnesota Democrats, some of whom have publicly urged the congresswoman to cancel the appearance just eight days before the midterm elections. Rep. Angie Craig, D-Minn., has called Piker’s rhetoric “polarizing and dangerous” and said embracing him is “a mistake,” while Sen. Amy Klobuchar’s gubernatorial campaign called a number of his past statements “reckless and unacceptable.” Other Democratic officials and party groups have gone further, calling on Omar and state Sen. Omar Fateh, who is hosting the sold-out Minneapolis event, to cancel the appearance. (Fox News).
Why is it OK for Abdul Sayed and Not Ilhan Omar?
Omar’s campaign defended the event as youth-turnout work — “Early voting among people under 40 is down, and we need to do everything to get young people to the polls” — while Piker’s own record supplied the critics’ ammunition: he has said he would “vote for Hamas over Israel every single time,” and in 2019 said America “deserved 9/11,” a remark he later apologized for. University of Minnesota political scientist Larry Jacobs predicted the event would “create a split within the DFL.”
