SMITHEREENS: US Strikes Key Iranian Targets in Strait of Hormuz

The strikes were on Larak Island in the Strait, one of its narrowest points.

US officials say Iran has launched ballistic missiles at a US airbase in Jordan in retaliation for US attacks on Iran near the Strait of Hormuz just hours ago.

This was the first known US strike in Iran since late-July.

Iran began attacking U.S. forces in Jordan on Sunday after American forces struck Iranian missile launchers on Larak Island, a U.S. source told Fox News’ Trey Yingst. No significant impacts have been reported so far, the source said, adding that nearly all incoming missiles have been intercepted so far. The attacks came after U.S. forces struck Iranian missile launchers on Larak Island on Sunday (Fox News).

Gunther Eagleman sums up the latest: Iran tried to re-mine the Strait of Hormuz. U.S. hit the launchers on Larak Island. Hours later they sent ballistic missiles at our troops in Jordan. Patriots are knocking them down. Fox source: no significant impact so far. Almost all intercepted. They’ve killed Americans at those same bases before. This is not a drill. Trump’s watching it live. Our guys on the batteries — not some coalition committee. Sanctions are biting. Their own president just admitted it (Eagleman).

The U.S. is looking to eliminate Iran’s ability to deploy any more mines in the Strait. Barak Ravid at Axios: The U.S. military struck Iranian military targets to prevent the deployment of sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz, a U.S. official said. This is the first known U.S. strike in Iran since late July when President Trump paused a two-week U.S. military campaign in the strait in late July. The U.S. military last week finished clearing all mines from the strait’s main shipping lane. Trump said at the time that Iran has been notified that any ship or boat placing new mines will be “immediately and systematically destroyed.” “There is a Zero Tolerance policy on mine placement in full force and effect,” Trump wrote on Truth Social (Axios).

Trump posts AI-generated video of Iran’s Kharg Island ‘blown to smithereens’ hours after first US strikes in a month

By Samuel Chamberlain, NY Post, Aug. 31, 2026:

President Trump posted an AI-generated video Sunday evening of what he said was Iran’s oil export hub of Kharg Island being “blown to smithereens” hours after the first American airstrikes targeting the Islamic Republic since July.

Trump, 80, did not clarify that the 10-second clip on his Truth Social account was AI-generated and there was no evidence Monday morning that the island off Iran’s coast had been hit.

“Trump’s tweets are laughable and conditions in Kharg are calm and appropriate,” Hamid Bovard, chief executive of government-run National Iranian Oil Co., told semi-official Iranian outlet Nournews, adding that operations had not stopped and workers were busy repairing previous damage.

Earlier Sunday, US Central Command said its forces had struck rocket launchers on Iran’s Larak island, about 400 miles east of Kharg. Tehran responded by launching missiles at US sites in Jordan, which were intercepted.

Separately, the United Arab Emirates Defense Ministry said its military had “dealt with” an Iranian drone that was detected over its waters. There were no reports of damage.

It is unfortunate that President Trump did not allow the U.S and Israeli Air Forces to finish off Iran’s leaders, military infrastructure, etc. The economic pressure President Trump is inflicting on Iran is excellent. However, the economic pressure would be much more impactful if was combined with greater military pressure. Let’s rid the world of this hideous regime in Iran, and allow Iran to once again become an ally of the United States, Israel, and the West.
