California Announces $1.2 Million Reparations for Every Black Citizen

This is a case of black liberals and race-hustlers seeking empathy for injustices they did not endure and grievances that do not belong to them and of white liberals seeking absolution for crimes they did not commit. Signaling a virtue one does not possess is a costly form of sanctimony as the tragically benighted state of California already knows but prefers to ignore.

California Task Force Recommends Reparations for Black Citizens, Sparking Debate Over Its Feasibility and Fairness

By: Mark Tito, Newsbreak, May 11, 2023:

In a groundbreaking move, a panel in California has recommended a plan to pay reparations to its Black citizens, making it the first state in the United States to do so. The recommendation proposes that each Black citizen be paid $1.2 million as a means of addressing past wrongs.

The announcement has elicited a range of opinions, with some commending the proposal and others raising concerns about its feasibility and fairness. It is worth noting that the plan is still in its early stages and has not yet been approved, but it has the potential to set a precedent for other states to consider similar measures.

According to a report by NBC News, the move follows the establishment of a task force to study the issue of reparations. The task force, which was created last year, is made up of nine members appointed by Governor Gavin Newsom and is charged with developing proposals for how the state can make amends for its role in slavery and discrimination against Black people.

The panel has recommended that California pay $1.2 million in reparations to each Black citizen who can prove that they are descendants of slaves and who have lived in California for at least two years. While some have praised the move as a step in the right direction, others have raised concerns about the cost of the program and the potential for fraud.

Economists on the panel have estimated that the program could cost the state more than $800 billion, a figure that has raised eyebrows among some California residents. Tweeting in response to the news, one user said, “California has an annual budget of around $237 billion, but economists on the panel said reparations could cost the state more than $800 billion.”

Others have questioned the fairness of the program, with some wondering how the state will determine who is eligible for the payments. One user tweeted, “What if I have Black slave ancestors but I’m 95% white, I should get reparations too.” Another user tweeted, “I’m not mad at this but who voted for this and who qualifies for it?”

While the plan is still in its early stages and has yet to be approved by the state legislature, it has sparked a lively debate among California residents. Some have praised the move as a necessary step in the fight for racial justice, while others have criticized it as a waste of taxpayer money.

According to a report by Fox Business, some California residents have expressed concerns about the state’s ability to fund the program, given the state’s other pressing issues, such as homelessness and the high cost of living. One user tweeted, “Gonna be disastrous. Can’t fix homelessness, but you’ll appropriate parse out money to people?”

Despite the concerns, the move has been celebrated by some as a long overdue step towards addressing the injustices of the past. One user tweeted, “Finally, my worth has been determined! Time to move to Cali and cash in on that sweet reparations money. #blackexcellence #CashMoney.”
