US President Joe Biden appeared to forget Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s name at a press conference for a new security partnership on Wednesday. UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Morrison had joined Biden to unveil the trilateral security partnership called ‘AUKUS’, that will help Australia create a multibillion-dollar fleet of nuclear-powered submarines.

During the conference, Biden turned to the British Prime Minister to express his gratitude, saying, “Thank you, Boris.”

However, when he turned to Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, Biden seemed to forget his name.

“I want to thank…uh…that fella down under. Thank you very much pal. Appreciate it Mr Prime Minister,” Biden said.

In response, Morrison gave Biden a thumbs up.

Biden did subsequently address Morrison by name but the damage was done.

A video of the moment when Joe made the hilarious gaffe has gone viral across social media platforms, with #ThatFellaDownUnder becoming one of the top Twitter trends.

The video is captioned, “Biden – “I want to thank that fella down under.” He forgot the Australian Prime Minister’s name.”

One user said, “Surely “That fella Down Under” is the equivalent of running into someone in the pub whose name you can’t.”

Another wrote, “This just made my day. Thank you Joe. #ThatFellaDownUnder.” Yet another commented, “Morrison will forever be known as #ThatFellaDownUnder and I’m here for it.”

The new trilateral defence and security partnership was launched with a joint televised address on Wednesday.
