Iranian officials skipped a planned handshake and photo-op with US negotiators in Switzerland, underscoring lingering mistrust despite both sides reporting progress in high-level talks.

The talks, held in Switzerland with mediation from Pakistan and Qatar, are part of ongoing efforts to build on a preliminary agreement between Washington and Tehran and ease wider regional tensions.

US Vice President JD Vance, who headed the American delegation, later told reporters that both sides had made “great progress” during the discussions. However, members of the Iranian delegation were absent during his press remarks.
