Just breaking, not yet hitting English news services and very spotty on Thai news. Censorship in force. Some stories are starting to appear in the Thai English press. This confirms the mass attacks, but we know from other sources TV and radio that there were many more attacks in other provinces not yet in the print media.
12 officers in Thai south hurt by rebels in ‘biggest attack in years’
This apparent mass attack at midnight April 6-7, 2017 comes after Monday’s grenade and shooting attack on a police checkpoint in Yala, injuring 9 officers. A few days before that there were three attacks killing a soldier and a police officer.
Nation Multimedia: Muslim insurgents carried out 11 almost simultaneous attacks in Pattani at midnight on Thursday and early Friday, causing several areas in the southern provinces to be hit by blackout.
Police said explosion sounds were heard after midnight in 12 districts of Pattani. Sounds of explosions were heard seven or eight times in Mueang district and Nongchik district before blackout gradually hit various areas.
ADVERTISEMENTAfter the blackout hit municipality area, the people, who were shopping and eating late at night, rushed home immediately.
Muslim attackers took down power and communications infrastructure – and part of it is (in many Thai people’s opinions) because of censorship due to the King just signed a new constitution into law on Thursday afternoon and the powers do not want that overshadowed by news of this mass attack. (It seems obvious that the Muslim mass attacks were timed to coincide with the King’s signing.)

This article says at least seven or eight bombs in Pattani province overnight, but is very short on details. We know there were many other attacks in other provinces.

Attackers fire grenades at police in southern Thailand

CAUTION – very preliminary. Will report further say in an hour. It is Friday April 7th, 7:15am in Thailand. Mass attacks happened about 7-8 hours ago.
Thai local news media and some Facebook pages reporting 23 attacks in Thailand’s Southern four provinces throughout the night, plus 2 pipebomb attacks in Bangkok on Wednesday (Slightly wounded 2 street cleaners who were emptying garbage bins.)
“Attacks” include bombs and other types of attacks.
Many southern communities are without power, internet and cell phones, so it is an assumptiion that power and cell phone, internet infrastructure is targeted as part of the mass attacks.
No photos available as yet for the damage in the South, although there are some photos of burning tires etc.
No reports of injuries in the south. No information at all in this regard.
Some ‘incidents’ reported as well as bombs include highways blocked with burning tires, nails.
3 Kola Prefecture Explosion – burn Many spots in the power outage area.
On April 7, 2560, at about 00.00 or (day 6 at 24.00), several serious incidents occurred in three southern border provinces. – Betong, Yala, have nailed the sail and burned rubber at Muto, Su-ngai Kolok, Narathiwat, and heard the explosion twice in the area of Su-ngai Kolok.And it was reported that there was a bomb at Palawan Mayor Narathiwat at Ruesu bombs 2 times, power outage has burned rubber front technical Kajana. Directions to Hat Yai, SongkhlaExplosion Bridges Before the first coconut roundabout, Nong Chik, Pattani, where Yarang Pattani bomb sound several times.In addition, in many areas of power outage, villagers must be in the dark.
