Huge props to Julia Gorin, who is keeping Atlas readers updated on the exposure of the lies and libels used to demonize the Serbs and lure the US into fighting with Muslims against the Christians in the Balkans.

Another trial of a "butcher" by civilizational butchers, and more shocking revelations.

The more light is shed, the more foul the stench:

Once again no one is
watching the supposedly momentous trial of yet another supposed “Butcher of the
Balkans” – after all that hoopla upon the arrest of Radovan Karadzic in the
summer of 2008. As one analyst warned the gleeful world leaders and other
Serb-haters at the time: “Careful what you
wish for.”

And so it was that
when Karadzic gave his stunning opening statement over the course of two days in
March, reporters took down just the first five minutes. Given what
he said,
it’s no surprise the press had no interest in letting the public
know.

But thanks to Hague
observer Andy Wilcoxson, we can get the fuller picture that Americans in
particular were denied by our self-censoring media throughout the 90s and then
during the Milosevic trial, which Wilcoxson alone followed. Because Andy
Wilcoxson exists, you and I don’t have to comb through the trial transcripts.
The hard part has been done for us. To make things even easier, I’ve excerpted
the most salient parts of Wilcoxson’s recent reports about the trial, which
began in March.

Please allow the
abridged May article below to serve as your introduction to the man whom the
U.S. called an “ally” in Bosnia: President Alija Izetbegovic. Our leaders
CONTINUE to portray the late president—whose son today is a leading weapons smuggler–as a pro-Western democrat
working toward a democratic and multi-ethnic Bosnia. In the ‘90s Western
bureaucrats did so even while Iran and the Arab world glorified Izetbegovic as
Jihad’s great hope.

(Note: “Okun” is
Ambassador Herbert Okun, who served in the U.S. Foreign Service and was later
special adviser and deputy to Cyrus Vance, personal envoy to Yugoslavia of the
UN Secretary-General.)

Okun Says Radical
Islamic Views Espoused by Izetbegovic and Cengic Shouldn’t Have Been Taken
Seriously  (Hearing date: April
26)

…Karadzic put it to
the Ambassador that “In 1934 [editorial note – translation error, should be 1943 – Atlas] the Jerusalem Mufti al-Husseini visited
Bosnia-Herzegovina [as] a guest of Alija Izetbegovic, and his visits resulted in
the creation of the SS Waffen and Handzar Division, composed of
Bosnian Muslims.”

… Karadzic also put
it to the Ambassador that in 1939 Izetbegovic founded the ‘Young Muslims’ (an
organization affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt).  Karadzic claimed
that the Young Muslims “continued to act secretly within Yugoslavia after World
War II and because of that, the group was tried and given prison sentences in
1947.”

…Okun acknowledged
that in 1970 Izetbegovic authored and published the “Islamic Declaration.”
Karadzic asked the ambassador, “Do you agree that from 1970 to 1980, he
disseminated the ‘Islamic Declaration’ through Islamic circles, and in the
1980s, he started creating the nucleus of an organization which was supposed to
put into practice the ‘Islamic Declaration,’ and he was tried because of that at
the Court in Sarajevo?”

The witness confirmed
Karadzic’s information saying, “Yes, I know that.”

The judgment said
that Alija Izetbegovic, and Hasan Cengic sought the establishment of Islamic
sharia law, and that they idealized the 1979 Islamic revolution in Iran. The
judges found that Izetbegovic and Cengic had solicited the help of the Iranian
regime to foment an Iranian-style revolution in Yugoslavia based on
Izetbegovic’s “Islamic Declaration”.

… The trial judgment
said, “Alija Izetbegovic asserted that Islam must be a state system or social
system in all countries where the population is Muslim, and that the necessary
conditions should be created to turn Bosnia and Herzegovina into an Islamic
republic with Islamic laws.” The Sarajevo trial chamber concluded that the
realization of Izetbegovic’s goals could only be accomplished “with a
fratricidal war, terror, or a foreign intervention.”

The judgment quoted
Izetbegovic as saying “Our imams should be armed and they should interpret and
apply Islam following the example of Iran’s Shiite imams.”

Hasan Cengic, who
would go on to become Izetbegovic’s Minister of defense during the Bosnian war,
held even more radical views than Izetbegovic.

The judgment quoted
Cengic saying, “The goal of the Islamic revolution in our country is the
creation of a unified Islamic state comprising the area of Bosnia-Herzegovina,
Sandzak, and Kosovo.”

The judgment went on
to quote Cengic’s view that “Jihad should be pursued to its final outcome in
order to exterminate the enemy and the infidels.” He said, “We should not wait
for a challenge or a provocation.  Muslims must invent a challenge.  They must
be the ones who produce the challenge, and the goal will then come by
itself…Muslims must be superior to all others, and every effort should be made
to create an environment in which everyone will be of pure Muslim
blood.”

Karadzic asked Okun,
“Do you remember that in the autumn of 1991, I asked Mr. Izetbegovic to say
publicly that the ‘Islamic Declaration’ was not his political and state
programme?  I asked him to renounce it, but he didn’t do that.  Do you remember
that?”

Okun confirmed
saying, “Yes, I remember that.”

NOW CHECK OUT OKUN’S
TAKE ON ALL THIS:

“…the Muslims did not
have an army, they had nothing, like any military force whatsoever.  They were
outnumbered by the Bosnian Croats and the Bosnian Serbs, both of whom were more
highly organised and had their countries behind them…So the chances of them ever
putting this fanciful dream into action were nil…I wouldn’t take [their
statements] seriously.

“…Izetbegovic never
hid his religiosity, nor did our president, George W. Bush, who was often
accused of this kind of stuff because he was a self-described born-again
Christian. These are not unusual events in countries.”

Of course George W.
Bush never said he wanted to turn the United States into a theocracy, he never
solicited the help of a foreign government to instigate a religious revolution
in America, and he was never imprisoned for collaborating with Nazis and foreign
religious fundamentalists. Ambassador Okun seemed like a fairly intelligent man,
it’s difficult to believe that he was as foolish as he sounded. It was sadly
obvious that he had a political agenda that he was pursuing through his
testimony.

Karadzic quoted
entries that Okun had made in his notebook. One entry quoted Croatian president
Franjo Tudjman saying, “Muslims want a Jihad, getting billions from Arabs.”… In
another notebook entry Okun quoted former Bosnian Prime Minister Mile Akmadzic
(an ethnic Croat) saying “Muslim radicals (specifically: Ejup Ganic, Haris
Silajdzic, Sefer Halilovic and Rusmir Mahmutcehajic) want to rid BH of
Serbs.”

Okun dismissed this
saying, “These were assertions by the Bosnian Croats.  They were not
accurate.”

…When Karadzic
accused Okun of behaving as Izetbegovic’s advocate, Okun volunteered an
interesting piece of information. He said, “As you know, the Bosnian Muslims
refused to sign the Vance-Owen Peace Plan, along with you.  That was in January
1993.  It took several months, until March 25, 1993, before Izetbegovic signed
the peace plan, and then he only did so after the map had been changed to ensure
Bosnian Serb rejection, because the corridor was cut by a Muslim
province…”

However, earlier that
day Okun had been critical of the Bosnian-Serbs for [also] rejecting the
Vance-Owen plan…The fact that Okun criticized the Bosnian-Serbs for rejecting
the Vance-Owen Plan when he knew the plan had been purposefully rigged “to
ensure Bosnian Serb rejection” shows a disturbing lack of sincerity in his
testimony.

Karadzic quoted from
Izetbegovic’s “Islamic Declaration” (trial exhibit D75). One passage advocated
an Islamic rebirth. It said, “We are not announcing an age of peace and
security, but one of unrest and trial.  There are too many things crying out to
be destroyed.  There will not be days of prosperity, but of self-respect.  A
people which is asleep can be awakened only by blows.  Whoever wishes our
community well will not try to spare its struggle, danger and
misfortune.”

Karadzic asked the
Ambassador whether he was aware that Izetbegovic held these views and Okun said,
“On the whole, yes … we knew that Izetbegovic was on the religious side of the
SDA.”

Karadzic said, “I’m
telling you, Mr. Ambassador, that Izetbegovic did not care about the well-being
of the Muslim people, let alone the well-being of the Serb and Croat people. 
What do you say to that?”

Okun replied, “I say
that’s a debatable point.”

Again Karadzic quoted
entries from Okun’s notebook. One entry said, “Mr. Izetbegovic and the radical
wing of the Presidency want to provoke foreign intervention.” And another entry
quoted the French UN Protection Force (UNPROFOR) commander General Morillion
saying “The B and H government was very unhappy when the UNHCR [humanitarian]
convoy got through to the Muslim town of Srebrenica.”

After reading out
these entries Karadzic asked the Ambassador, Did the Muslims “abuse the
sufferings of their own people to win over the sympathies of the international
community and bring about a foreign intervention?”

Okun’s response was,
“I would not say they abused it.”

Muslims Commit Crimes
in Sarajevo and Ascribe them to Serbs

Karadzic showed the
witness a document from the Security Administration of the Supreme Command of
the Army of Bosnia-Herzegovina (exhibit D77). The document laid out the way in
which Muslim soldiers in Dobrinja (a neighborhood in Sarajevo) murdered a
Serbian civilian and then told the international authorities that the victim had
been killed by Serbian shelling.

…Karadzic read out
entries from Okun’s notebook. One entry said, “Since third week of August,
UNPROFOR is being deliberately targeted by Muslim troops, have protested this to
Izetbegovic.”

Another entry quoted
UNPROFOR commander Satish Nambiar saying “Incidents of killing of two French
soldiers yesterday was dastardly act cold-blooded ambush by Muslim force of
Presidency.  The humanitarian convoy announced in advance, as always,
unquestionably 100 per cent certain that French soldiers were killed by Muslim
forces.”

Karadzic asserted
that in Sarajevo the Muslim Army killed UN soldiers with a view to tarnishing
the image of the Bosnian-Serbs and Okun conceded, “That’s correct, we knew at
the time that it was most probable that the French peacekeepers had been killed
by Muslim fire.  It’s in my journals, and that was something that was widely
understood by the UN troops.” […]

In case readers need
reminding as to just why Bosnia is so important and why the Karadzic trial needs
to be followed, especially after Americans passed on the opportunity to follow
the Milosevic trial, here is a quote from writer Jonathan Freedland in 2005 in
the UK Guardian, two weeks after the 7/7 attacks. His article was titled “It’s not
only about Iraq”:

Tellingly,
those who monitor Islamism in Britain say the big
surge in growth of extremist groups came not after 9/11 or Iraq but in the
mid-1990s – with Bosnia serving as the recruiting sergeant. In the same
period Chechnya, Kosovo and Israel-Palestine all came into play – again
predating Iraq.

It is also
worth understanding that America’s favorite region to ignore, the Balkans, is a
jihadist beachhead. For, once they have the Balkans they will have Europe.
Moamar Gaddafi understands this
perfectly well.

Further, it
is important to finally set the historical record straight, as it is to not play
into in the hands of the bigger Islamic scheme
for which the inaccurate
phrases “8,000 men and boys” and “worst atrocity since WWII” are being utilized.
Finally, in the name of justice, it simply isn’t right that the least guilty
party of the Yugoslav wars, where worldwide jihad officially kicked off, should
remain the “monsters.”

As Nebojsa Malic reminds me, “Every
Muslim combatant who died in Bosnia was buried as a martyr in the holy war, a
shahid. Every. Single. One.” (And please note that our “moderate” ally
Izetbegovic asked to be buried “among the shahids.”) “Non-Muslims are
categorized as ‘casualties’ but the Muslim dead are ALWAYS referred to as
‘shahid.’ This is an explicit admission that the war was a jihad, however much
the Muslims tell Western reporters otherwise. The Potocari memorial is one
gigantic monument to jihad, Koranic verses and all. The Srebrenica Muslims’
raids on nearby Serb villages “and wanton murder, torture and mutilation of
civilians match the standard jihadist practices.”

And so in closing,
here is an excerpt from the following day of Okun’s testimony, which contained
even more eye-popping revelations:

Okun Testifies about
Violations of UN Arms Embargo

…Karadzic showed
[Okun] an entry in his [Okun’s] notebook dated 9 September 1992 in which Okun
quoted a statement by Judas Kumin, who was at that time the leader of the UNHCR
in Bosnia-Herzegovina. The notebook entry read, "Situation deteriorating in
Serbia.  Sanctions hard.  Many Muslims going into Serbia.  Serbian response to
refugee inflow is a good one.  On whole, non-discriminatory. Need to tell donor
community that too much aid going to B and H and Croatia.  It is needed in
Serbia.”

In an entry dated
September 25, 1992 Okun’s notebook quoted the U.N. top aid official in the
region, Jose-Maria Mediluce of Spain at a meeting in Zagreb saying, "Bosnian
Serbs (and Muslims) also under pressure; either fleeing fighting in Eastern
Bosnia, or fleeing persecution by Muslims and Croats…Karadzic read out the entry
and said, “Here a reference is made to Bosnia-Herzegovina.  From Eastern Bosnia,
170,000 Serbs were expelled, and 150,000 Serbs from Western Bosnia.  That's
what's written here, isn't it?” After a long speech condemning the Serbs, Okun
finally conceded that the answer to the question was
“Yes.”

Another entry in
Okun’s notebook said, “[Portuguese diplomat Jose] Cutileiro was very concerned
about what they [the EC] see as gaseous efforts to lay all the blame on the
Serbs and Milosevic for everything that goes wrong in B and H.  Cutileiro says
bluntly that Mr. Izetbegovic is a liar and cannot be
trusted.”

Okun responded to the
entry saying, “We heard comments along those lines about all of the
parties.”

Speaking on the topic
of Iranian arms transfers to the Bosnian-Muslims Okun said, "[Croatian]
President Tudjman on one occasion took Secretary Vance and me to the Zagreb
Airport to look at an Iranian 747 jet plane, the big ones, that was loaded with
arms and gas masks destined for the Bosnian Muslims."

Okun also testified
that "There is no question that the Bosnian government did receive weapons,
including from the United States.  They landed largely at Tuzla Air Force Base. 
Everybody knew that.  People felt that the imposition of an arms embargo on a
defenseless state was an immoral act, and therefore they broke the
embargo.”

If the
Bosnian-Government was so defenseless one has to wonder how, in the first year
of the war, they managed to expel the 320,000 Serbs that Okun made reference to
in his notebook.

Karadzic showed Okun
a document (exhibit D80). The document was an indictment against Senad
Sahinpasic issued by a German court in Munich dated March 9, 1993.  Sahinpasic
was an official of the “defenseless state” of Bosnia-Herzegovina and it alleges
that he was trying to procure weapons and nuclear materials for the Bosnian war
effort.

Okun then states that
preserving multi-ethnic UN founding member Yugoslavia is the same as trying to
create a Greater Serbia. Wilcoxson’s analysis in response to
that:

The alchemy here is
amazing, the term “Greater Serbia” conjures up an idea of territory that
belonged to others being conquered and conjoined to Serbia to form a
Greater-Serbia. But according to Okun, Greater-Serbia was to be realized by
maintaining the status quo and for the Serbs to continue living in a
common-state as they had done for the previous 47 years while others opted to
secede from the common state. 

An Affinity for the
Islamic Cause

Okun seemed to have
an affinity for the Islamic cause. His criticism wasn’t limited to the Serbs. He
was also highly critical of Israel. He said, "The Israeli founding myth was that
about half a million Palestinians voluntarily fled their homes in Palestine
during the War of Independence in 1948.  That's just not true.  They were forced
out."

Contemporaneous
documents published in 1948 indicate that the Palestinians left Israeli
territory with the intention of returning after the Arab armies had destroyed
Israel and drove the Jews into the sea – but that’s another
story.

UPDATE: Julia Gorin submits this CORRECTION about the Karadzic trial:

The invaluable Andy Wilcoxson informs me that he made
a typo in quoting Karadzic about the year that the late Bosnian wartime
president Alija Izetbegovic received the Jerusalem mufti. It was 1943, not 1934.
By 1943 Izetbegovic was 18 — not nine (as one comment-poster named
“TheProudIslamist” scoffed) — and already a prominent member of the Young
Muslims, which he founded at 14.
