How was this terrorist vetted? He was a known jihadi. Terrorist images were found on his social media and he posted about killing Jews online in disturbing social media posts. And he had been previously banned from flying over his terroristic views.

Omani co-pilot mused about ‘killing Jews’ in disturbing social media posts before hijacking attempt: report

The Omani co-pilot accused of trying to hijack an Israel-bound plane carrying 174 people mused about killing Jews online in disturbing social media posts, according to an Israeli official.
The co-pilot, who has not been named publicly, is accused of attacking his Indian lead pilot in the cockpit on the flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv on Wednesday before trying to down the aircraft.
Authorities are investigating any possible connection to terrorist activity or intent but an Israeli official signaled that the aviator could have been targeting Jews.
“This was a person who was willing to commit suicide,” the official told the Times of Israel.

The Omani native also reportedly possessed anti-Israeli literature, heightening the suspicion he intended to kill Jews, according to Israeli outlet i24.
On Wednesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed the co-pilot “underwent Islamist radical indoctrination before stabbing the lead pilot in the cockpit some two and a half hours into the flight.
“It looks very likely that he was going to down the plane,” he told “Fox and Friends.”
A colleague of the co-pilot has also since claimed the staffer, who had only been working for the airline for little under a year, was a religious extremist — describing how he refused to shake women’s hands.
ADVERTISEMENTIt remains unclear how the Omani pilot was cleared to work on the flight, which was eventually landed by two off-duty pilots in Saudi Arabia, since Oman doesn’t have any diplomatic relations with the Jewish State.
Pilots must hold passports from countries with which Israel has diplomatic relations to land.
“Obviously there was a loophole here, and we’re taking care of that,” Netanyahu told “Fox and Friends.”
“He has no other nationality,” one source said.
