El-Sayed’s family boasts of Muslim Brotherhood connections while Abduld denies any family connection to Muslim Brotherhood. He lies as naturally as he breathes. If his lips are moving, he is lying.
The jihad candidate for Senate was a guest of NBC’s Kristen Welker.
The relevant clip: Welker: Can you set the record straight about whether you or your family have any ties to the Muslim Brotherhood? El-Sayed: No, but let’s talk about this. Welker: No, you don’t have any ties? El-Sayed: No. Welker: And your family doesn’t? El-Sayed: No (Daugherty; full interview: NBC News).
California Congressman Ro Khanna is willing to play along: “Suggesting Abdul El-Sayed supports the Muslim Brotherhood is extremely Islamophobic” (Yakoby).
I know Abdul well as a result of my own 2018 governor run. His response to me pointing out his ties to the Muslim Brotherhood at a May 2018 gubernatorial forum before 150 members of the MI Press Association was to say to me “You may not hate Muslims, but Muslims definitely hate… https://t.co/vnEHzIIU9i pic.twitter.com/0sgXe2LAdn

The candor—which is particularly helpful in this election cycle—has come not from El-Sayed himself but from Eman Abdelhadi, his half-sister. The two share the same mother—Fatten Elkomy. Free Beacon: “My family has long been MB,” Abedlhadi wrote on June 24, 2012, days after Egypt elected Muslim Brotherhood leader Mohamed Morsi as president. “I have had family jailed for being a part of it,” she wrote on July 3, 2013. “Praying for all my family that supports the #MB in Egypt. Lie low, stay safe” she said. Abdelhadi’s Egyptian family is seemingly the same as El-Sayed’s. Their mother, Fatten Elkomy, emigrated from Egypt in the late 1970s and married El-Sayed’s father. After they divorced, Elkomy married Abdelhadi’s father, who was Palestinian. Abdelhadi: “Praying for all my family that support the #MB in #Eyypt. Lie low, stay safe” (Free Beacon).
Reporter: Do you or your family have ties to the Muslim Brotherhood?
Abdul: No.

More from Eliana Johnson: Abdelhadi, who was arrested for assaulting a police officer at an anti-ICE protest in Chicago last year, also indicated in her posts that she remained in close contact with her Brotherhood relatives, writing in 2012, “Asked my Aunt about the MB when she was visiting the US, was surprised by respect for civil liberties, women, religious minorities” (Free Beacon).

Abdul El-Sayed’s Mother Was Active in Muslim Brotherhood in College, Sister Said
El-Sayed called his mother in a May campaign video, saying, ‘We’ll see you soon,’ but now says he has no familial ties to the Islamist group
By: Washington Free Beacon, October 13, 2026:
Abdul El-Sayed’s mother—whom the left-wing Michigan Senate candidate has described as “smart, warm, charismatic” and whom he called on camera in a May campaign video—was active in the Muslim Brotherhood while in college in Egypt, a revelation that further contradicts El-Sayed’s recent claims that neither he nor his family have ties to the radical Islamist group.
Eman Abdelhadi, a University of Chicago professor and El-Sayed’s half-sister, wrote about her mother and other family members’ ties to the Muslim Brotherhood in social media posts in June 2012, just after Muslim Brotherhood leader Mohamed Morsi was elected president of Egypt.
“Had an amazing talk with my mom about her activism in the Muslim Brotherhood during the early 70s while she was in college,” wrote Abdelhadi, who is five years younger than El-Sayed and has a different father.
Abdul El-Sayed’s alleged family ties to Muslim Brotherhood surface after denying any link during NBC interview
Democratic Michigan Senate candidate told Kristen Welker his family had no ties to the group on ‘Meet the Press’

New questions dog El-Sayed about alleged family ties to Muslim Brotherhood
Fox News congressional correspondent Bill Melugin has the latest on U.S. Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed’s alleged family ties to the Muslim Brotherhood and his campaign denials on ‘Special Report.’
Democratic Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed is facing new scrutiny after he denied that he or his family had any ties to the Muslim Brotherhood.
On Sunday’s “Meet the Press,” NBC’s Kristen Welker pressed El-Sayed whether he could “set the record straight” on allegations that his family had connections to the controversial Islamist group.
“No,” El-Sayed replied.

“No, you don’t have any ties, and your family doesn’t?” Welker followed up.
“No,” El-Sayed repeated before suggesting his Republican opponent, Mike Rogers, was floating Islamophobic attacks against him and his family.
However, according to his half-sister Eman Abdelhadi, their mother was an active member of the Muslim Brotherhood.
“Had an amazing talk with my mom about her activism in the Muslim Brotherhood during the early 70s while she was in college #respect,” Abdelhadi wrote in a 2012 X post, as first reported by the Washington Free Beacon.

Their mother, Fatten Elkomy, had attended Egypt’s Alexandria University, which, according to a report from the Brookings Institution, had strong Muslim Brotherhood activity back in the 70s.

In another 2012 post, Abdelhadi, a professor at the University of Chicago, wrote: “My family has long been MB, but I’ve always felt that it has navigated the political sphere poorly/destructively.”In a third post from 2013, she wrote, “Praying for all my family that supports the #MB in #Egypt. Lie low, stay safe.”
An El-Sayed campaign spokesperson issued a statement to Fox News, saying, “Abdul is a dad and a doctor. He has spent his entire career working to keep Michiganders healthy and safe. Independent fact checkers have repeatedly debunked Mike’s lies, but their campaign continues to use bad faith attacks on Abdul’s faith and family. Mike wants to distract from Trump’s agenda that is terrorizing Michigan families at the pump and at the grocery store.”
The campaign has also said the Muslim Brotherhood accusations have been “debunked as racist and untrue.”
