Ilhan Omar is demanding that $140 billion be stripped from ICE and Border Patrol and redirected to the very communities that obstruct federal immigration enforcement and harbor criminal illegal aliens. She calls the enforcement of America’s immigration laws a “racist terror campaign” and wants ICE—not the lawbreakers, sanctuary politicians, or criminal aliens—to “pay the price.” Senator Jim Banks nailed it: “Democrats fight for everyone except the American people.” This is not immigration reform. It is a brazen plan to defund border enforcement, reward lawlessness, and punish the officers protecting the American people.

Let her press release speak for itself: Following the conclusion of “Operation Metro Surge” in Minnesota, Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-MN) introduced the Make ICE Pay Act to redirect the $140 billion allocated to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) through the “One, Big Beautiful Bill” Act (HR-1) and invest it into communities across the country that have been impacted by the Department of Homeland Security’s heinous operations. “For over a year, ICE has been tearing through our nation, leading racist terror campaigns that have caused devastating damage to our cities, to our businesses, and to the lives of our constituents,” said Rep. Omar. “In Minneapolis, Operation Metro Surge cost our community nearly $700 million. We have a moral responsibility to end this abuse of power. Our bill will force ICE to pay the price for the damage they’ve left in their wake and ensure that these devastating operations can never be repeated” (Omar).

Mike Miller at Red State: The salient question is whether or not this absurd piece of legislation will fly. Indiana Sen. Jim Banks (R-IN) posted on X: “This bill is un-American. This bill defunds law enforcement and gives their funding to the communities harboring criminal illegal aliens. Democrats fight for everyone except the American people” (RedState)
