Is Islam the Solution?

For the entirety of the early part of the twenty-first century, Westerners have been consistently lectured about the superior morals and history of the culture that has given rise to numerous deadly terror attacks. Most recently we have gotten this from the likes of Tucker Carlson and Megyn Kelly. Yet it is a demonstrably false narrative. Even as Muslims grow daily more assertive and aggressive in North America, and many European states appear to be on the verge of becoming Islamic republics, the fact is clear: Islam is a failure.

How dare I, or anyone, dare to say such a thing in today’s environment? While books such as Christianity Is Not Great: How Faith Fails by the noted atheist polemicist John W. Loftus raise few eyebrows, criticizing Islam carries with it a particular stigma: it supposedly indicates that the one doing the criticizing hates Muslims, and wants to incite violence against them. Yet there is no reason why this should be so.

Societies consist of constellations of ideas. Whether these ideas are right or wrong, good or bad, those that become dominant in a society translate into actions. It is overly simplistic to say that allegedly offensive speech leads to violence, but there is nevertheless no doubt that ideas, beliefs and attitudes have definite effects, which can be observed and evaluated. In the case of Islam, that observation and lead to this inescapable conclusion, that Islam is indeed a failure.

This is what is demonstrated in the new book The Tragedy of Islam: Failure and Excuses. Since our educational system has robbed a generation of Americans of the ability to make basic distinctions, it is necessary to note, at this point, that to say that Islam is a failure is not to say that every Muslim is a failure, or that Muslims in the aggregate are bad people. The distinction between Islam as a belief system and individual Muslims has been deliberately obscured in order to silence criticism of the belief system: to speak negatively of Islam, we have been told, is to endanger Muslims.

This is not only false, it also prevents us from doing the necessary work of evaluating ideas and beliefs—Islam as well as others—in order to determine whether we have really been wise to encourage their proliferation in American society. Many people will cheerfully avow that they want to see the influence of Christianity limited in various ways in American society, because they consider that influence baneful. No one charges them with “hate” or “incitement.” We ought to have that discussion about Christianity. We ought to have one about Islam as well.

Everyone can see that the Western world is seriously ill. No one, however, agrees what should be done about it. Some say the solution need not be, and in fact is not, something new. According to many Muslims in the West today, the solution is actually something very old: Islam.

Sheikh Raed Salah, leader of the Islamic Movement in Israel, preached on February 2, 2024, that America was on its way out, and that the world had to prepare accordingly: “The politicians who are asking about ‘the day after’ in Gaza have forgotten to ask themselves about ‘the day after’ in America—not only in Gaza. What about ‘the day after’ in America—after America has finished playing its role? America has grown old. It is old. It is on the verge of retirement. It is about to be admitted into a nursing home.”

The solution for America as well as for the rest of the world, said Salah, was the religion of Muhammad. He even claimed that Muhammad himself had prophesied an Islamic America: “The Prophet Muhammad has said: ‘A small army of Muslims will conquer the white house, the house of Kisar [the Persian ruler].’“

In case any of his listeners missed his point, he continued, “Ever since the days of Adam and to day—this is 2024—we have never known of any house that was built and named ‘the White House,’ except for the ‘White House’ in Washington.” He didn’t bother to disclose to his audience why a Persian ruler was occupying America’s Executive Mansion. Instead, Salah drove home the point that Islam was in America’s future: “Perhaps this hadith is clear evidence that the future caliphate [that will follow] the ways of the prophets will lead to the spreading of Islam, and Islam will enter every home in every continent without exception, including every home in America.”

It must be remembered that Islam is much more than just a religion in the Western sense. It is a total way of life, offering a political system, a social system, and even an economic system. Islamic apologists brag about this in making negative comparisons of Islam with Christianity; the latter, they say, offers only a handful of vague moral principles, while Islam encompasses literally every detail of human behavior. There is no aspect of human activity that Islamic law doesn’t cover. As such, Islam is indeed a worthy competitor and alternative to Communism and Christianity, for it doesn’t just orient human beings to the deity, but to one another as well, regulating every aspect of human interaction.

Yet Islam has failed everywhere. It has not created great or powerful societies except on the backs of subjugated non-Muslims who supplied the treasury of the state. Once they were bled dry, those great Islamic societies went into decline. And now the West is on track to repeat all this yet again. The catastrophic folly of this is explained in The Tragedy of Islam.
