DOJ Moves to Denaturalize 12 Foreign-Born US Citizens

ADVERTISEMENTThe Department of Justice announced it has filed denaturalization actions against 12 people accused of offenses including providing material support to a terrorist group, committing war crimes, and sexually abusing a minor.
Under the Immigration and Nationality Act, a naturalized U.S. citizen’s citizenship may be revoked, and the certificate of naturalization canceled, if the naturalization was illegally procured or procured by concealment of a material fact or by willful misrepresentation.
The 12 are accused of a range of offenses from lying under oath to the sexual abuse of a child:
1. Ali Yousif Ahmed Al Nouri, 48, an Iraqi native who lied under oath about his criminal and family history when he sought admission to the United States, claiming they were attacked by al-Qaida. He is accused of murder in the killings of two Iraqi police officers.
2. Oscar Alberto Pelaez, 75, a Colombian Roman Catholic priest who sexually abused a child. Pelaez lied about the commission of these crimes in connection with his naturalization application.
ADVERTISEMENT3. Khalid Ouazzani, 48, a Moroccan native who sent al-Qaida thousands of dollars and pledged an oath of support to the organization.
4. Salah Osman Ahmed, 43, a Somali native accused of being a member of the terrorist group al-Shabaab.
5. Baboucarr Mboob, 58, a Gambian native who executed six officers while serving in the Gambian army because he believed they were plotting a countercoup against then-President Yahya Jammeh.
6. Kevin Robin Suarez, 31, a Bolivian native who engaged in a conspiracy to buy guns through straw purchasers for the eventual exportation of the weapons to Bolivia and other Latin American countries only months after his naturalization.
7. Abduvosit Razikov, 46, an Uzbek native who paid a U.S. citizen to enter a sham marriage so he could become a permanent resident and later paid another U.S. citizen to enter a sham marriage with his actual romantic partner so she could enter the U.S. After becoming naturalized, he later entered another sham marriage with an Uzbek woman so she could obtain immigration benefits.
8. Abdalla Osman Sheikh, 28, a Kenyan native who, while serving in the Marines, possessed child sexual abuse material.
9. Debashis Ghosh, 62, a native of India who conspired to defraud investors of $2.5 million intended for the construction of an aircraft maintenance center. On his naturalization application, Ghos denied ever committing a crime.
ADVERTISEMENT10. Pin He, 53, a Chinese native who applied for immigration benefits a year after he was ordered removed from the United States.
11. George Oyakhire, 66, a Nigerian native who used a false identity when he applied for naturalization.
12. Victor Manuel Rocha, 75, a Colombian who admitted that he was spying for Cuba in 1973, five years before he was naturalized in 1978. When he applied for naturalization, Rocha said he was not affiliated with Cuba.
