UK Quisling Starmer Refuses to Join US Blockade of Strait of Hormuz

Another snub from our longtime ally. Think of all the blood and treasure America spent on this one time ally.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer made the announcement on Monday. He clarified, as well, that the Strait needs to be opened. Apparently, he just wants others to do the dirty work.

Washington Times: In an interview with the BBC, Mr. Starmer stressed that reopening the Strait of Hormuz remains a high priority for his government and that the U.K. is committing significant resources to finding a peaceful solution. “It is, in my view, vital that we get the Strait open and fully open, and that’s where we’ve put all of our efforts in the last few weeks, and we’ll continue to do so,” he said…. Mr. Starmer insisted that he would not commit British vessels to a blockade that he said did not have a lawful basis or a “clear thought-through plan” (Washington Times).

Starmer did note that the U.K. has minesweepers in the region, but—again—obfuscated on whether and when they’d be put to work for the cause. Breitbart: Starmer all but confirmed the UK would take a part in this, but typically was short on detail, either on timeline or appetite for risk: the United States needs mine countermeasures support now, but so far European powers have demurred from the idea of any deployment while a shooting war remains on, severely reducing how useful they are willing to be. Sir Keir told the BBC: “What we’ve been doing over the past few weeks is bringing countries together to keep the straits open, not shut… We’re not supporting the blockade. “And all of the marshalling, diplomatically, politically and capability, we do have minesweeping capability… that’s all focused, from our point of view, on getting the straits fully open… We want to get energy prices down as quickly as possible” (Breitbart).
