New York’s Financial Sector Losing Ground to Rivals

10

You ain’t seen nothing yet. Pro-growth leaders in states such as Florida and Texas are salivating at the prospect of capturing what’s left of New York City’s financial sector. And if the Communist Zohran Mamdani is elected mayor of New York City they will get exactly that. New York City as we know it will not recover from Zohran Mamdani. This is tragic.

For the whole of the twentieth century, New York City’s wealth was driven by myriad sectors – manufacturing, with the garment trade being a dominant force, finance, publishing, technology and shipping through its major port. The unions drove manufacturing out. It’s non-existent. And successive Democrat governments, through burdensome regulation and high taxes, drove out almost everyone else. Today the two largest employers in NYC are the government and Wall Street (financial sector). The looters and producers. Once the producers are gone – what then?

New York’s status as the U.S. economy’s leading financial hub could be slipping as a leading figure in the city’s business community is sounding the alarm.

Kathryn Wylde, president and CEO of the Partnership for New York City, which advocates for the city and the financial industry, said in an appearance on WABC 770 AM’s the “Cats Roundtable” on Sunday that the shift is a “scary” development and raises questions about the Big Apple’s economic competitiveness: “Right now, the big challenge is are we going to remain competitive for jobs?”

Wylde told host John Catsimatidis that the “financial services industry, they’re our biggest taxpayers and major employers – and that industry is shrinking in New York.”
