The mass-protests in Turkey continued throughout the night after the arrest of the Mayor of Istanbul and main opposition candidate for the presidential election in 2028 Ekrem Imamoğlu. In Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Trabzon and many other cities, mssive crowds of people are protesting in Turkey against Turkish president Erdogan.
Detention orders were also issued for around 100 others connected to the mayor, including his press adviser Murat Ongun, according to state-run news agency Anadolu Agency. Among those detained are elected Istanbul district mayors Resul Emrah Sahan and Murat Calik.
Erdogan will use this to tighten his grip even more.
Turkey, once a modern Muslim country, separating mosque and state. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founding father of the Republic of Turkey, undertook sweeping progressive reforms, which modernized Turkey into a secular, industrializing nation. Ideologically a secularist and nationalist. He is still revered by the Turks. Erdogan destroyed all that and has worked feverishly to hurl Turkey back to brutal Islamic rule.
I don't know why Turkey is suddenly on fire tonight, but there are HUGE uprisings all over the country against Erdogan's regime.

This video won’t be shown on Al Jazeera or by Qatari-funded think tanks. But the streets of #Turkey tonight echo Maidan Square; millions rising, resisting, refusing to be silenced. The world may look away, but history won’t.

That reached an extraordinary climax on Wednesday with the arrest of Ekrem İmamoğlu, the popular mayor of Istanbul who is widely considered the most potent politician to challenge Erdoğan since the president came to power in 2002.
….amid fears that İmamoğlu’s arrest marked a dangerous turning point for Turkey — even in a nation that has grown used to years of creeping authoritarianism under his rule. “He has crossed the Rubicon,” said Suat Kınıklıoğlu, a former MP. “There is no going back from here for him.”
Moe…..
Authorities in Turkey have arrested dozens of people for “provocative” social media posts, after detaining the mayor of Istanbul Ekrem Imamoglu on Wednesday.
Imamoglu was one of more than 100 people held on charges including corruption and aiding terrorist groups – a move that has sparked protests in Istanbul and the capital Ankara.
A member of the secular Republican People’s Party (CHP), Imamoglu is a key rival of President President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and was set to be named as a presidential candidate for the 2028 elections later this week.
Critics describe his arrest as “a coup” and are planning further demonstrations, despite Istanbul’s governor imposing a four-day ban on protests.
