Yet Another Terror-Tied CAIR Official Lets the Mask Slip

The establishment media and all too many government and law enforcement officials continued to treat the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) as if it really were the neutral civil rights organization it claims to be, but it’s getting ever more difficult to sustain that façade. Too many CAIR officials keep letting the mask slip.

The latest is Noora Shalash, who reportedly is or was the Director of Government Affairs for CAIR-Kentucky. She was recently caught on video assaulting a Jewish man and screaming: “I demand jihad, I want ISIS to kill all of you.”

Now, virtually all of the politicians who have happily stood next to CAIR top dogs for photo ops and courted the Muslim vote by praising CAIR to the skies don’t know this, or don’t care, but Shalash’s Jew-hatred is not an exception for CAIR leaders. It’s the norm.

The most notorious example of this is the organization’s top dog. Nihad Awad, the cofounder and longtime executive director of this deceptive, disingenuous and dangerous organization, notoriously said in Nov. 2023 that Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023 jihad massacre of 1,200 Israelis made him “happy.” That was too much even for the Biden regime, which summarily dropped CAIR from a White House antisemitism task force. Of course, CAIR should never have been part of that task force in the first place, but such is the madness of our age.

Awad wasn’t by any means alone. Back in Nov. 2021, Zahra Billoo, executive director of CAIR’s San Francisco Bay Area chapter, delivered a venomously antisemitic speech in which she told her Muslim audience to “oppose the vehement fascist, but oppose the polite Zionist too.”

Billoo warned against even far-left Jewish groups such as the ADL, despite the ADL’s demonization of Jews and friends of Israel who note honestly the nature and magnitude of the jihad threat. Billoo declared: “We need to pay attention to the Anti-Defamation League. We need to pay attention to the Jewish Federation. We need to pay attention to the Zionist synagogues. We need to pay attention to the Hillel chapters on our campuses because just because they are your friends today, doesn’t mean that they have your back when it comes to human rights.”

That’s not even close to all. CAIR officials have refused to denounce Hamas and Hizballah as terrorist groups. CAIR is an unindicted co-conspirator in a Hamas terror funding case — so named by the Justice Department. Several former CAIR officials have been convicted of various crimes related to jihad terror. CAIR’s cofounder and longtime Board chairman (Omar Ahmad), as well as its chief spokesman (Ibrahim Hooper), have made Islamic supremacist statements about how Islamic law should be imposed in the U.S. (Ahmad denies this, but the original reporter stands by her story.)

CAIR means to translate its support for jihad violence and hatred of Jews into policy. During the 2024 presidential campaign, Jaylani Hussein, the executive director of CAIR’s Minnesota chapter, founded a website called Abandon Biden, which in due course became Abandon Harris. Its objective was to pressure the Biden/Harris regime to abandon Israel and fully embrace the jihad that is determined to destroy the Jewish state.

The Biden/Harris White House duly betrayed Israel every chance it got, but the Abandon Harris campaign kept the pressure on anyway, hoping to bring about a full break between the United States and Israel. The Abandon Harris website declared: “As the letter from Black Muslim American leaders so powerfully stated, ‘The war on Gaza is a war on Islam.’ The Muslim-American community—a diverse body of people from all ethnicities and races—has decided: we will not stand down.”

CAIR also rewards politicians who dance to its tune and join in its denunciations of Israel. JNS reported in Oct. 2024 that CAIR “announced on Oct. 18 that it plans to give an award to outgoing Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-N.Y.), who lost his primary in June for New York’s 16th Congressional District. A frequent critic of Israel, Bowman is slated to receive CAIR’s 2024 Champion of Justice award on Nov. 22, when he is also scheduled to deliver a keynote at the group’s 30th anniversary gala.”

This sort of behavior, along with the frequently expressed antisemitism of CAIR leaders, ought to move patriotic politicians, as well as all government and law enforcement officials, to shun this unsavory organization. The time for willful ignorance is over. It’s time for realism and accountability from those who are sworn to protect us, and that means that CAIR should no longer enjoy the influence it has had for all these years. Even more, the Trump administration should conduct a thorough investigation of this group. It would not come a moment too soon.
