January 14, 2025 – NBC News anchor Lester Holt interviewed Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian from inside Iran for an exclusive one-on-one that will air tonight on NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt at 6:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. CT.
ADVERTISEMENTDuring a critical moment for the world, Holt spoke with Pezeshkian about the ongoing multi-front war in the Middle East amid an impending ceasefire and hostage release deal, Iran’s relationship and willingness to negotiate with the U.S., Iran’s proxy groups in the region, nuclear development, and the reported assassination plot against now President-elect Donald Trump. The sit-down interview marks Pezeshkian’s first with a U.S. news organization since the 2024 U.S. presidential election.
Previously, Holt gained rare access inside Iran in 2019, sitting down with multiple Iranian senior government officials and citizens. Most recently in 2023, he conducted Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi’s final interview with a U.S. network inside the country before his death last year.
