A Split on the Left Has Opened Up Over the Hamas-Israel War

…To the left, however, those Israeli victims have been to blame for the attacks they have suffered because they are “illegal settlers.” To quote Rabbi Brous, the left said that “these Israeli victims somehow deserved this terrible fate” because they were people of whom the left disapproved and were thus airbrushed out of the scope of human sympathy altogether.

Now these leftists are crying because suddenly, they feel the hot breath of the Jew-haters on their own necks. For such “progressives,” it’s all about them. It always was all about them.

These people have supported Muslims against all adverse comment, denouncing any critics instead as “Islamophobic.” As a result, the profound and lethal Jew-hatred that is rampant throughout the Muslim world is ignored or denied.

Britain’s Muslim community said it was “deeply upset” by Starmer’s Gaza ceasefire remark. Yet its leaders have failed to denounce Hamas or express horror at the pogrom or sympathy for the Israeli victims.

For Starmer, Muslim support is critical to his electoral prospects. There are 14 times as many Muslims in Britain as there are Jews. In the 2019 general election, nearly 80% of Muslims voted Labour.

But Starmer is so far ahead in the polls that even the loss of Muslim support is unlikely to prevent him from becoming Prime Minister. Besides, where can Muslim voters, disaffected from Labour, now go? The Conservative Party, under Rishi Sunak, is even more supportive of Israel than the Labour Party. The Muslim voters can simply stay home, thus reducing their political power. And either Sunak or Starmer — both anathema to the Muslims — will continue to support Israel’s war on Hamas.

Just 0.5% of the British public is Jewish, and only about one-fifth of them vote Labour. There are just five parliamentary constituencies where Jews make up more than 10% of the population. In contrast, there are 108 constituencies which are at least 10% Muslim. Labour won 83% of those seats at the last election.

But support for Israel in the U.K. is not limited to Jews. Many people in the U.K. have been appalled by the October 7 pogrom. And more are beginning to connect the dots of the Muslim war against Israel with the Muslim war against non-Muslims being waged, so far largely nonviolently, by the millions of Muslims who have been allowed to settle in the U.K. Those Muslim economic migrants have taken advantage of every benefit the generous British welfare state provides, including free or greatly subsidized housing, free medical care, free education (including vocational and language training), unemployment benefits (even without a work record in the U.K.), family allowances, and more. These Muslim migrants have been a terrific drain on the state, costing it tens of billions of pounds every year. The Muslim migrants have also created No-Go Zones in such cities as London, Manchester, Bradford, and Leicester, where non-Muslims enter at their peril. They have contributed to a huge spike in crime nationwide. Muslim criminals include the all-Pakistani grooming gangs whose members have turned young and vulnerable English girls into their sex slaves, by first getting them high on drugs and alcohol, raping them repeatedly, and then passing them around like party favors.. Tens of thousands of girls have had their lives changed forever, by becoming the victims of these creatures who regard non-Muslim girls as fair game.

It’s not just the Jewish community that’s so horrified by the mass support for barbarism displayed by the Muslim-led demonstrations and the “progressive” world. Thousands of other decent people are shocked and aghast at this evidence of a cultural monster that’s arisen in their midst.

Hundreds of thousands of British demonstrators have been chanting for the destruction of Israel and the murder of Jews with the police seemingly unable or unwilling to enforce public order laws.

The pusillanimity of the British police has been amply demonstrated by their failure for years to do anything about the grooming gangs, for fear of being attacked as “racists” and “Islamophobes.” In similar fashion, they have singularly failed to subdue anti-Israel rioters or even to stop those who tear down posters of Israeli hostages, all in the name of preserving, as the police in Manchester said, ”social peace.” But that “social peace” has been bought at the cost of leaving Jews to fend for themselves when the mostly-Muslim demonstrators curse and threaten them, or tear down with impunity those posters of the Israeli hostages.

If the “progressive left” now splits, with one part of it revealed as hideously antisemitic, anti-Western, and anti-American, and the other part beginning to realize it has been fooling itself about the morality of the left, that will be one of the three useful things to have resulted from the Oct. 7 pogrom. Another, of course, is the complete destruction of Hamas as a fighting force. And the third is the understanding, by the Israelis, that there can never be an independent Palestinian state, no matter what its size, west of the Jordan.
