Israel’s Weapons Industry In 2023

8

In 1948, the Jews of Israel were attacked by five Arab armies. By the end of 1948, thanks to the willingness of Czechoslovakia to sell Israel weapons, the Israeli military possessed some 400 tons of mortars and other heavy machinery, aerial bombs, flamethrowers, explosives, tanks, combat vehicles, as well as 34,500 Mauser rifles, 200 MG 34 machine guns, and 5,040,000 rounds of ammunition. The lesson was clear to the Israelis: never again would Israel allow itself to be so dependent on other countries for its weaponry. There might not be another Czechoslovakia to come to its rescue in the future. And if the “progressive Democrats” have their way, even the United States, Israel’s closest ally, may someday limit military aid to Israel in order to force it to bend to Washington’s will.

Israel’s defense industries have come up with one spectacular advance after another. Israel is now a world leader in drone technology. Its anti-missile defense system, Iron Dome, managed during Operation Arrow and Shield to shoot down 96% of the missiles Israel deemed worth trying to stop; the IDF doesn’t bother trying to intercept missiles that it calculates will land harmlessly in open fields. Its laser-based Iron Beam anti-missile system promises to be even better than Iron Dome, at a fraction of what Iron Dome costs, and should be operational within two years. The Merkava tank, in its latest, fifth, iteration, is judged by many to be among the five best tanks in the world, and the safest for tank crews, which is why some countries prefer it to the more powerful Russian T-14 and the German Leopard.

The world’s most populous country, India, imports more weapons from Israel than it does from any other country. So do Vietnam and Azerbaijan. Three Arab members of the Abraham Accords – the UAE, Morocco, and Bahrain – have been buying large amounts of weapons from Jerusalem. Israel has agreed to sell to the UAE its SPYDER mobile interceptors, made by Rafael, that are capable of defending against various types of aircraft, drones and cruise missiles.

Israel now has a $500 million deal to provide Morocco with the Barak MX air and missile defense system, which is manufactured by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI). Morocco also purchased the Skylock Anti-Drone System from Israel in 2021.

Recently Morocco has provided a long list of Israeli-made weapon systems it wishes to acquire from Israeli companies. The list includes different types of UAVs, radars, communication, and early warning systems. At first, Moroccan requests were for basic UAV systems aimed mainly at intelligence gathering. However, Israeli sources now say the Moroccans are asking for more “aggressive” systems to launch strikes against enemy targets. That enemy, as everyone knows, is Algeria, which supports the Sahrawi Liberation Front in its separatist war against Morocco.

Israeli sources also confirmed that Morocco is interested in the Elta ELM-2084 radar, which is part of the Rafael Iron Dome air defense system. The ELM-2084 Multi-Mission Radar (MMR) detects high and low flying targets, tracks, classifies and generates a real-time Air Situation Picture of all aerial targets such as low radar cross-section platforms. Morocco has quietly been buying weapons from Israel since 1967; not it is doing so out in the open.

Israel sold $12.556 billion in defense products in 2022, with new Arab partners belonging to the Abraham Accords accounting for almost a quarter – 24% — of the business.

The 2022 figures marked a spectacular 50% increase over the previous three years and a doubling in volume over the previous decade. Drones accounted for 25% of the 2022 exports and missiles, rockets or air defense systems for 19%.

In 2023 Israel’s defense exports will be even higher. Germany has just signed a $4.3 billion agreement to buy Israel’s Arrow-3 missile defense systems – a higher amount than all of Europe purchased from Israel in 2022. And many more deals are expected between Israeli defense companies and -countries in Europe this year, because the Russia/Ukraine war is making many European nations nervous, and like Germany, they are suddenly interested in beefing up their defense with billions of dollars In new purchases.. Already at least one European country has asked to buy Merkava tanks. Israel’s defense industry has so far been the main, though unintended, beneficiary of the Ukraine-Russia war.

Israel has also been exporting used F-19s to Canada and the U.S. to be used for training purposes.

Annual Israel arms sales then have risen from $8.3 billion in 2020, to $11.3 billon in 2021 (the first time they have hit double-digits), to $12.6 billion in 2022, and in the first half of 2023, those arms sales– counting Germany’s $4.3 billion purchase of the Arrow 3 missile defense system—have amounted to $8.2 billon. If defense sales continue at the same rate in the second half of the year, Israel will have a total of $16.4 billion in defense exports for 2023, which would make it the fifth largest exporter of arms, behind .the US, Russia, France, China, and Germany.

Israel’s weapons industry constantly astonishes. Rafael and Elbit are among the best defense companies in the world. They keep turning out new weapons, new avionics, constantly improved Merkava tanks, cheaper and. better anti-missile defense systems, including a new missile designed specifically to take out the hypersonic missiles Iran claims it now possesses.

Israeli defense companies, like Rafael, Elbit, Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) are among the best in the world. They keep turning out new offensive and defensive weapons, new avionics, constantly improved UAVs, even improved Merkava tanks. Now Israel produces some of the most advanced weaponry in the world, and in defense exports this tiny country now ranks with Germany, France, and China.

Seriously I don’t know why more people haven’t tried this, I work two shifts, 2 hours in the day and 2 in the evening. And I surely got a check of 12600 US dollars. What’s awesome is I’m working from home so I get more time with my kids.

And every time Israel got engaged in significant war it asked America for ammunition.
This has to be fixed.

Love your article on Israel’s weaponry industry!!!!! Love that they’re independent of other nations so that they can determine their own destiny rather than being at the teat of the USA…who under the criminal Biden/Obama/Soros administration is insanely financing Palestinian terrorism and Iran’s nuclear industry.
