As Recession Deepens, Biden White House Redefines Recession, ‘Soviet-Style Propaganda’

‘Recession’ is far from the first concept the left has simply redefined to deflect the consequences of their failed policies and ideas.

Daily Caller: The Biden administration preemptively downplayed concerns about the state of the economy ahead of second quarter GDP growth data in a press release set for Thursday and, according to some, sought to redefine what constitutes a recession (Daily Caller). Daily Wire: The United States is poised to meet that definition since the annualized economic growth rate shrank by 1.5% in the first quarter of this year and appears to have contracted at a 1.6% pace in the second quarter. As the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis prepares to publish an advance estimate of second quarter growth later this week, the Biden administration is already doing damage control (Daily Wire). Tom Elliot: Biden Chief Gaslighter @BrianDeeseNEC: “In terms of the technical definition, [two negative quarters of growth] is not a recession” (Twitter). Fox News reporter Jacqui Heinrich: Bracing for impact: Even if Thursday’s GDP report shows a second consecutive quarter of negative growth, you won’t hear the Biden admin using the R-word. The Council of Economic Advisers is redefining what a recession is (Twitter).

Biden White House Literally Redefines Recession, Gets Ripped by GOP: ‘Soviet-Style Propaganda’

By: Mike Vance, Daily Patriot Report, July 25, 2022:

One way for the Biden administration to avoid a recession is to simply redefine what a recession is. Crazy as it sounds, this is the actual approach by the Biden White House.

On Thursday the Biden White House tried to get ahead of a disastrous GDP report coming later this week by redefining the word “recession” with a blog post.

“While some maintain that two consecutive quarters of falling real GDP constitute a recession, that is neither the official definition nor the way economists evaluate the state of the business cycle,” the article reads, stating that it is “unlikely that the decline in GDP in the first quarter of this year — even if followed by another GDP decline in the second quarter — indicates a recession.”

White House National Economic Council director Brian Deese also stated that a second consecutive quarter of negative GDP growth was technically “not a recession.”

Economist Michael Strain did a great job highlighting what a ridiculous claim that is.

Other Republicans fired shots at the Biden administration for trying to redefine their failures.

There are a lot of things that can be done to help get our economy back on track. Redefining what a recession is does not qualify as one of those things.
