Vienna shooting: Terror attack fears after multiple shots fired by city’s main synagogue
POLICE in Austria have rushed to a synagogue in the capital Vienna after reports of a shooting.

Footage posted on social media showed people scrambling for cover as shots can be heard in the background. A man can be heard shouting while sirens go off while a pedestrian can be seen cowering behind a bike rack. Flashing lights from what appear to be police vehicles can also be seen in the video. Austria’s interior ministry said one person has died and several are injured following the incident.
The Jewish community of Vienna has reportedly been instructed to stay indoors and remove kippot (skullcaps) and other Jewish items following an attack targeting a synagogue in the city. (Ynet)

Police in Vienna have confirmed they are responding to a major incident in the city centre and have asked people to stay away.
The city’s force tweeted: “Urgent – Currently there is a major police operation in the #InnerenStadt.
“We are increasingly on site with our resources.

Police said all available forces have been deployed to the area.
The force confirmed multiple casualties.
They said: “Shots fired in the Inner City district – there are persons injured – KEEP AWAY from all public places or public Transport.”
Austrian public broadcaster ORF cited witnesses saying several shots had been fired near a synagogue at around 8pm.
When asked about the reason for the deployment of additional forces, the police spokesman declined to comment.
The newspaper Kronen Zeitung said the attack was on the street that houses the city’s main synagogue.
It and other media reported shots fired in the area of a nearby square, Schwedenplatz.
