Portland mayor condemns rioters for ‘attempting to commit murder’
The mayor said violent protesters will be used as “props” for President Trump’s reelection campaign

Story continues below advertisementPortland Mayor Ted Wheeler Thursday evening condemned the actions of rioters who attempted to set fire to a police precinct and blocked the exits while officers were inside.
placeholder“When you commit arson with an accelerant in an attempt to burn down a building that is occupied by people who you have intentionally trapped inside, you are not demonstrating, you are attempting to commit murder,” Wheeler said in a news conference with Portland Police Chief Chuck Lovell.
“Don’t think for a moment that you are if you are participating in this activity, you are not being a prop for the reelection campaign of Donald Trump — because you absolutely are,” he said. “You are creating the B-roll film that will be used in ads nationally to help Donald Trump during this campaign. If you don’t want to be part of that, then don’t show up.”
A riot was declared Wednesday evening when agitators descended upon the Portland Police Bureau’s East Precinct building, spray-painted over security cameras, broke a glass door with a 2×4, lit a fire using an accelerant and threw fireworks and other objects at officers, according to FOX 12 in Portland.
Police said that a truck also attempted to run over officers.

The front doors of the precinct were barricaded before the fire was started with more than 20 officers and civilian employees inside, police said, according to FOX 12.
Officers used tear gas to disperse the rioters and at least eight people were arrested. A federal court order bars police from using tear gas unless a riot is declared.
“I believe that city staff could have died last night,” Wheeler said. “I cannot and I will not tolerate that. This is not peaceful protests. This is not advocacy to advance reforms.”
Rioters also vandalized and broke into Portland’s Police Association Tuesday night.
Wheeler also urged peaceful protesters to avoid gatherings that could turn destructive or violent, according to Oregon Live.
“If you are a nonviolent demonstrator and you don’t want to be part of intentional violence, please stay away from these areas,” Wheeler said. “Our community must say that this violence is not Portland, that these actions do not reflect our values and these crimes are distracting from reform, not advancing.”
The clashes between thousands of protesters and federal agents sent by the Trump administration to guard the federal courthouse stopped after an agreement between Democratic Gov. Kate Brown and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security that called for the agents to begin drawing down their presence in Portland’s downtown on July 30.
Then some instigators moved on to other police buildings across the city to cause problems.
Wednesday night’s violence in a residential neighborhood on the east side of the city began after a group of about 100 people gathered in a nearby park for a rally advertised on social media by the group Pacific Northwest Youth Liberation Front with the slogan “No cops. No prisons. Total abolition.” The group then marched to the precinct.
At the same time, a larger peaceful group of Black Lives Matter protesters gathered downtown to give speeches. No police presence was necessary, Portland Police Bureau Capt. Tony Passadore said.
“Hurting people and trying to trap people in a building and burn them up, it’s just completely awful,” Portland Fire & Rescue Lt. Damon Simmons reiterated in the news conference, according to FOX 12.
Wheeler said the city anticipates “additional planned attacks on public buildings” in the coming days and said he was giving the police leeway to do what they needed to do to counter those plans as long as it can be done without threatening peaceful protesters.
On Wednesday, Portland Police Chief Chuck Lovell said rioters aren’t forwarding the cause of racial injustice protesters. “Portlanders need to send a strong message that enough is enough,” he said. “This movement is really powerful, but the violence has taken away from it.”
Wheeler was met with jeers from protesters two weeks ago when he joined them for a dialogue.

Last night, authorities in Portland, Oregon finally declared a riot after a fire started inside the police union building. Violent demonstrations continued last night in the city.
Three officers were hurt, including two who were taken to a hospital, during efforts to clear a crowd of several hundred people outside the Portland Police Association building late Saturday, police said in a statement. The two hospitalized officers have since been released.

Somehow I don’t think the Left will be able to handle them… The Russians couldn’t handle them in Afghanistan… China is pretty brutal but it’s not clear they have them under control. One thing is clear is they will not be able to fully squash Islam by force. The battle is actually a spiritual battle… the ideology must be discredited so that people who follow Islam will choose to apostatize instead of continue to jihad.

It’s beyond me why Ted Wheeler and all the other dems that allowed, and in many cases encouraged, total anarchy and lawlessness in the cities they took an oath to govern and keep safe are not physically removed for completely and totally failing at the job they were elected to do.

In the first six months of 2020, Customs and Borden Protection officers seized nearly 20,000 counterfeit U.S. driver’s licenses at Chicago’s O’Hare airport alone, according to a report.
The 19,888 licenses and other fake documents were included in 1,513 overseas shipments, mostly from China and Hong Kong, CBP said, according to FOX 5 in New York City. Others were from South Korea and Britain.

Please don’t blame the state. Eastern Oregon is more conservative than just about anywhere. Same for most of Washington, California, New York, Virginia, and numerous other states, at least by land area. Systemic Liberalism is an urban disease, and thanks to the Supreme Court back in the ’60s ruling that states couldn’t have bicameral legislatures with representation for rural counties, this mess is what you get when a state is unfortunate enough to have a major urban center.

You speak wise words. California and Oregon have both had petitions to split the state — but when you have Liberal judges ruling on the outcome – it goes nowhere. Eastern Oregon recently attempted to have their part of the state become part of Idaho — I don’t know where that goes. The time has come for the conservative farmers, etc – to take their pitchforks, tractors, columbines, etc and close down the streets of Portland, Sacramento, Seattle — just as the BLM/Antifa are doing. Your voice has to be heard if you want a place at the table. George Orwell said it best… “A people that elect corrupt politicians, impostors, thieves and traitors are not victims, but accomplices.” It will take action to not be a “victim/accomplices”. At 80 years old – I’ve seen wars won and lost — I hope for the sake of some of these states – the good side wins.

If I had a business in any “Blue state” I would begin my plans to move to a secure “Red state”. By secure I mean one that has a conservative history and isn’t about to change colors! Being “proactive” beats anything less. We all have choices — even if it means walking away from your home, being penniless — you can start again – there are many ways to change. Do it!

I really don’t understand Wheeler… I thought these were peaceful protests… there must have been a misunderstanding.. those peaceful protesters were being peaceful when they accidentally lost control of their barbecue which then almost lit the police station on fire. After all, where are those peaceful protestors supposed to roast their marshmallows for their smores? /s
