Judge says Bolton ‘gambled’ with national security, ‘exposed his country to harm and himself to civil (and potentially criminal) liability’, but will allow book to be released

Bolton has lost the plot. Utterly. And with it, his mind, it seems.

Forced to resign under Bush, Bolton stood by the RINO President. Despite their policy disagreements, Bolton would describe his loyalty to the spineless, gutless Bush, saying, “I serve at the pleasure of the President.” And yet he afforded no such pleasure to the President who gave him his most senior position. And how badly, how desperately, he wanted to be part of the Trump administration. What a rat.

I thought I knew him. I was wrong. He’s a small, narcissistic thirst monster. His betrayal is nothing short of shocking.

Judge allows Bolton book to be released, but says he ‘gambled’ with national security

By Adam Shaw | Fox News

President Trump fires back at John Bolton over book

A federal judge on Saturday allowed the forthcoming publication of John Bolton’s memoir to go ahead next week despite concerns it contains classified information – but tore into the former national security adviser for having “gambled” with national security.

“Defendant Bolton has gambled with the national security of the United States. He has exposed his country to harm and himself to civil (and potentially criminal) liability,” Judge Royce Lamberth said in a ruling. “But these facts do not control the motion before the Court. The government has failed to establish that an injunction will prevent irreparable harm.”

The Justice Department had sought an injunction and a temporary restraining order to prevent the release of “The Room Where It Happened” on June 23, saying that the book contained classified information and that Bolton had deliberately bypassed the necessary classification review process that he had agreed to.

“In exchange for money, he has broken that promise,” David Morrell, deputy assistant attorney general, said in a hearing Friday. “The obligation lies on him to bring his book in line with the contractual obligations he assumed.”

But Bolton’s team has claimed that the administration is just trying to suppress embarrassing information about President Trump’s conduct,

The book includes a number of damning claims about President Trump’s conduct in office, including that Trump pleaded with Chinese President Xi Jinping to help him win reelection, and that he said journalists should be “executed.”

Bolton wrote that after the latter comment, “This led to one of Trump’s favorite legal gambits, namely, that the Justice Department arrest the reporters, force them to serve time in jail, and then demand they disclose their sources. Only then would the leaks stop.”

Bolton’s team argued that the the book was already out in the public domain via a number of reporters who had received copies, pointing to images of reporters wielding the book already and reading from it.

“The speech has been spoken, it cannot be unspoke,” his attorney Charles Cooper told the judge.

He went on to accuse the Trump administration of not engaging in a judicial process, but “theater” as it was urging the judge to order Bolton to do something he is unable to do.

“It’s theater, it’s to use your courtroom as a stage and to enlist you as a player as the government uses the rhetoric, the very incendiary names … against my client, Ambassador Bolton, because at the end of the day, there is nothing Ambassador Bolton can do,” Cooper said.

Cooper also said that the government signed off on publication, because in one email Bolton was told that the manuscript, in its latest form, did not contain classified information — and that the form in question does not expressly say Bolton would have to wait for written permission.

The judge had expressed doubt about whether anything could be done at this late stage in the process, considering the book had been widely reported on already.

“It certainly looks difficult to me over what I can do about all these books all over the country,” Lamberth said.

But the Justice Department argued that an injunction could stop more copies, as well as audiobooks and electronic versions, from being distributed.

I don’t know if you read the comments here, but Ms. Geller, don’t be too hard on yourself. It’s easy to be mislead and fooled by someone close to you, that you thought really cared about you or you thought was simply on your side! It happens! Just learn from it… Just don’t let it color your world. Lick your wounds and move on. Be grateful you are not like him. Bolton will get his just desserts either here or when he steps foot in eternity.

His lies, mischaracterizations and breaking agreements will not serve him well long term. He is a scorned, vindictive establishment war monger. Trump should NEVER have hired him. Trump has to stop that. If Trump wants an opposing view, listen to CNN or read the NYT! Forget what Lincoln did on that issue. We don’t have the luxury of time to allow these people in your administration and sabotage things as Bolton did . The stakes are too high and time is of the essence to correct what can be corrected. Nothing good ever comes from these egotistical people.

This book should NOT have been allowed to be released and those released confiscated. Once again our rule of law bucked on national security secrets and the agreement Bolton signed mean nothing. Bolton deliberately bypassed the necessary classification review process that he had agreed to. This is another travesty that a JUDGE is giving into. Now we have another precedent being set that these agreements don’t matter.

We are seeing more lawlessness within our justice system taking place. It’s not just happening with BLM and ANTIFA. Our own legal system is contributing to it and that includes the U.S. Supreme Court. When it gets bad enough people WILL want to trash it and replace it with something else. They will be so tired of the lawlessness and want law and order restored. This is how DICTATORS come to power! Our system works just fine when you ALLOW IT TOO! We are being set up for a dictator.

A few years ago I went to hear John Bolton in Toronto. I had high regard for him then, but it’s been evident for a while that he is a fraud and peculiar creature who loyalty is entirely to himself. Trump has made a few poor choices, HR MacMaster, that borderline idiot Anthony Scaramucci – who now panders to the Liberal media and allows himself to be used by them – and Bolton among these, but thankfully they didn’t last long – and then set about condemning the president. Evident, now, Bolton would prefer to have a Democrat in office. The man is a foolish nincompoop!

Here is what Bolton wrote in his Yale 25th Reunion book about being drafted back in 1970:

“I confess I had no desire to die in a Southeast Asian rice paddy. I considered the war in Vietnam already lost.”

In a 2007 interview, Bolton explained his comment in the reunion book
saying his decision to avoid service in Vietnam was because “by the time
I was about to graduate in 1970, it was clear to me that opponents of
the Vietnam War had made it certain we could not prevail, and that I had no great interest in going there to have ted Kennedy give it back to the people I might die to take it away from.”

I took my pre induction draft physical in November 1967 and every thing that came after it. Which is a lot more than Bolton and Trump did. Neither man is worth much to me. Both are cowards that let other young men die for them.

I am not impressed by the survivors of the Viet Nam era who have elevated themselves to positions of power and authority, these 50 and 55 years later in life. I knew many friends in the 1960’s who did go there and died. Too bad both Bolton and Trump didn’t!

Bolton and Trump are both buffoons in my opinion!

You are a bigger buffoon!

Trump has more balls than you could ever fantasize about. Don’t let facts get in your way. Trump had a health issue. Bolton did not.

Choosing NOT to go to ‘Nam (if that option is available) turned out to be the wise move, ’cause adding one’s body to the carnage – and for WHAT?!? – is senseless at best!

My amateur diagnosis of Bolton is that he suffers from intermittent explosive disorder where a person is prone to violent outbursts far out of proportion to the situation at hand. It is ironic the malady can be abbreviated as IED, as in improvised explosive device, a combat hazard in the Middle East.

He needs to get a grip.

Glad you have made a strong statement about someone who used to be a willing colleague of yours but betrayed your trust and support of him with his own selfish and narcissistic thirst. It is your honesty that keep you floating UP 🙂

John publicly stated he did not want to go to Vietnam to die in a war we could not win. First we did win when the Viet Cong (VC) were destroyed in Tet of 1968. It was the politicians like LBJ, McNamera, John Kerry and Jane Fonda and her kind that lost the war. Second that told me Bolton was/is a POS and in the following years was willing to risk/destroy the lives of military personnel in wars Bolton had no intention of winning while he himself NEVER fought in any war. I have faith his book will bomb. Most of what I have read about what he says in his book seems highly embellished and not very plausible.

I agree with Pamela. I used to like John Bolton when he was UN Ambassador under GWB, because he stood up to the UN. That is all I really knew about him. Now I just see him as a petty and self-serving elitist.
