Todd Shepherd of the Washington Free Beacon’s vicious jab at Pamela Geller: “Self-described free-speech advocate”

When conservatives attack Leftists, the Left circles the wagons and defends its own, no matter what they’ve done. But when Leftists attack conservatives, the establishment Right eagerly plays circular firing squad and throws its own under the bus. And that’s just one example of how the establishment Right is weak, pusillanimous, and essentially a tool for the Left.

Pamela Geller and I, and other foes of jihad terror, have been mocked, vilified, ridiculed, and defamed in the establishment media. This has been a classic manifestation of the Alinskyite tactic of isolating, personalizing (as in, acting as if what we say is singular to us, and egregious), demonizing and marginalizing a target. Few conservatives stood with us. And now Todd Shepherd of the Washington Free Beacon gives us a new example of this phenomenon. The Free Beacon is generally a trustworthy site, far from Leftist. But Shepherd, in speaking of our Garland event, writes that “self-described free-speech advocate Pamela Geller created the ‘Draw Muhammad’ event at which Joiner was providing security along with the Garland Police Department.”

The “self-described” adjective is a vicious jab that one would expect from some Leftist pro-censorship rag such as Mother Jones or the Huffington Post, but which should be unworthy of the Free Beacon. In reality, the Garland event was dedicated precisely to the preservation and defense of the freedom of speech. When jihadis are saying, “If you draw Muhammad, we will kill you,” free people have two choices: draw Muhammad or submit and surrender, and show that you are willing to kowtow to violent intimidation. So we held the event to show that at least some in the West will not submit to bullying, and will defend the freedom of speech.

Todd Shepherd and the Free Beacon should realize that. They clearly don’t. And the Left to which they are bowing and scraping will eventually steamroll over them, too.
