47 Nonprofit Leaders Denounce SPLC, Urge Media to Cut Ties With Hate Group Over Libelous ‘Hate Map’ in Open Letter #SPLCexposed

Southern Poverty Law Center: ‘Our Aim in Life Is to Destroy These Groups, Completely’

I am proud to be a member of the coalition and a signatory on this letter.

On Wednesday, 47 leaders of conservative nonprofits sent an open letter to the media warning against using the notorious “hate map” put out by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC). The leaders denounced any news organization that would cite the SPLC’s list of “extremists” and “hate groups” as if it carried moral authority. “The SPLC is an attack dog of the political left” and should be treated as such, the leaders wrote.

“To associate public interest law firms and think tanks with neo-Nazis and the KKK is unconscionable, and represents the height of irresponsible journalism,” the leaders declared. “All reputable news organizations should immediately stop using the SPLC’s descriptions of individuals and organizations based on its obvious political prejudices.” (PJM)

The letter addressed “Members of the Media” and strongly warned against the SPLC. The leaders characterized the organization as “a discredited, left-wing, political activist organization that seeks to silence its political opponents with a ‘hate group’ label of its own invention and application that is not only false and defamatory, but that also endangers the lives of those targeted with it.”

Conservatives Urge Media: Cut Ties With SPLC Over Dangerous ‘Hate Map’

By Katie Yoder | Newsbusters September 6, 2017:

Conservative leaders are calling out the liberal media for a dangerous hypocrisy: While media outlets readily promote an organization locating conservative and faith-based organizations on a “hate map,” they would never do the same for a map of abortion providers.

On Wednesday, 47 conservative leaders and organizations demanded that news outlets immediately halt their use of Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) data. Composed by the Family Research Council and signed by Media Research Center President Brent Bozell, the leaders published an open letter to the media detailing why outlets should stop referencing the “attack dog of the political left” while reporting.

“The SPLC is a discredited, left-wing, political activist organization that seeks to silence its political opponents with a ‘hate group’ label of its own invention and application that is not only false and defamatory,” the leaders challenged, “but that also endangers the lives of those targeted with it.”

According to the SPLC, many traditionally conservative and faith-based organizations constitute “hate” – a smear that has real-life consequences.

The letter pointed to Floyd Lee Corkins II, who, five years ago, entered the doors of the Family Research Council with the intention of a shooting rampage. The building manager stopped him, but not before getting shot himself.

“Corkins intended to kill everyone in the building, and then go on to terrorize additional organizations,” the letter read. “The U.S. Attorney stated in federal court that Corkins targeted FRC and additional targets by using the SPLC website’s ‘Hate Map.’”

While the networks ignored the use of SPLC’s hate map in that instance, Hollywood and the liberal media routinely cite SPLC data without question. And, in the wake of the Charlottesville violence, the SPLC has only gained steam by attracting big name financial backers.

But the leaders urged that now, more than ever, the media must cut off ties with the SPLC to avoid “another Corkins.”

“We believe the media outlets that have cited the SPLC in recent days have not intended to target mainstream political groups for violent attack, but by recklessly linking the Charlottesville melee to the mainstream groups named on the SPLC website,” the letter continued, “we are left to wonder if another Floyd Lee Corkins will soon be incited to violence.”

“To associate public interest law firms and think tanks with neo-Nazis and the KKK is unconscionable, and represents the height of irresponsible journalism,” the leaders declared. “All reputable news organizations should immediately stop using the SPLC’s descriptions of individuals and organizations based on its own obvious political prejudices.”

To support their letter, the leaders cited both political and media figures debunking the SPLC and highlighted the FBI’s discontinued use of the SPLC as a “trusted source” for Hate Crimes in 2014.

For their final example, the leaders pointed to the SPLC’s attack of human rights activist Ayaan Hirsi Ali, who has “experienced the violent and misogynistic side of Islam first hand” as a victim of female genital mutilation, among other grievances.

In an Aug. 24 New York Times op-ed, Hirsi Ali responded to the SPLC’s accusations:

I am a black woman, a feminist and a former Muslim who has consistently opposed political violence. The price for expressing my beliefs has been high: I must travel with armed security at all times. My friend and collaborator Theo van Gogh was murdered in broad daylight.

Yet the S.P.L.C. has the audacity to label me an ‘extremist,’ including my name in a ‘Field Guide to Anti-Muslim Extremists’ that it published on its website last October.

In that guide, the S.P.L.C. claims that I am a ‘propagandist far outside the political mainstream” and warns journalists to avoid my ‘damaging misinformation.’ These groundless smears are deeply offensive, as I have dedicated much of my adult life to calling out the true extremists: organizations such as Al Qaeda and ISIS. Yet you will look in vain for the S.P.L.C.’s ‘Field Guide to Muslim Extremists.’ No such list exists.

The leader also called out the media as hypocritical.

“If a national pro-life advocacy organization were to release a map with caricatures of abortionists and title it, ‘Here’s Where the Baby Killers are Located in Your State,’ would the media run the story?” the leaders asked of a situation where Congress proposed defunding Planned Parenthood. “Would it reprint the map and discuss the location of these ‘pro-death’ doctors throughout the news day?”

“Clearly, it would not,” they determined.

In their conclusion, the leaders repeated the dangers SPLC poses.

“Given the above points, and most alarmingly that the SPLC’s ‘hate group’ propaganda has been linked to two terrorist shootings in the D.C. area,” they ended, “we respectfully request that you cease using the SPLC’s data and its various lists and maps in your reporting.”

I’m 55 years old and as a child hearing of Southern Poverty Law Center it was instinctive they were crazy. Bogus center just making a name for themselves by making wild allegations. If you don’t recognize their a bunch of goof balls, there is something wrong with you. I don’t see the point of this announcement. They moved their money offshore because they knew their time was up. Countersuits waiting to happen is leading to their financial demise. Clooney threw his money away.

There is no polite way to describe what all people of all political persuasions must do to firstly the media then the organizations like slpc or anything like it. They must be eviscerated, totally destroyed as they would destroy society and civilization. There is no point in letting the media in particular continue to exploit hate against everyone for its diminishing profits.

Notice the elementary school level grammatical errors in that spiel: “this past four weeks” instead of “these”, misspelling of “financially” (one l), and “wont” instead of “won’t”. There must be a test you have to flunk in order to qualify.

“The media” are not a monolithic bloc and includes websites like Ms. Geller’s as well as the right-wing sources that report on the shenanigans of NGOs like the SPLC. I agree SPLC has “jumped the shark” in many ways and it is wrong for anyone to just unquestioningly accept the “hate group” label SPLC has placed on many legitimate groups and invididuals; but suppression of the media is not the answer. We have a little thing called freedom of speech, protected by the First Amendment, which I seem to recall is pretty much what Ms. Geller’s organization is all about — the remedy for stupid speech by outfits like SPLC is MORE speech to expose their lies, not suppression of speech we don’t like.

And terminate all off-shore accounts. Should become immediately no longer legal to hide/shelter an entities funds beyond America’s shores to avoid taxes… For anyone, starting with them… And the US Treasury could use the funds even as all Americans get a tax break…

Hiding money offshore to avoid tax? Yes, bad. It’s ALREADY illegal. But simply HAVING offshore accounts? If revealed to the IRS, and if taxes are paid on income, no biggie. How else are expatriates and multinational companies supposed to live, or do business, abroad, if they can’t have accounts at local banks? Carry all their money under their mattress? C’mon.

If not for the express purpose of income tax evasion, why would any American entity, i.e., (the one this piece is about for example) and based in the states, hide their funds in offshore accounts?

Freedom of speech is a very good thing and must not be suppressed. Tolerance of the intolerant is not a good thing. The current lame stream media, in their suppression of the news they don’t approve of, while promoting usually socially destructive causes, is an abuse of free speech, censorship if you will. They must be brought under control, by whatever reasonable means is possible, or unreasonable if necessary.

Well, that’s where we will just have to agree to disagree. Have you forgotten Voltaire’s alleged admonition that “even though I hate what you say, I will defend to the death your right to say it?” That’s what free speech is. No censorship, period, is acceptable. Those who don’t like what CERTAIN media outlets are selling, should get their news from OTHER media outlets — and are certainly free to spread the word, as you are doing, about the abuses of this unfettered right which you say have been committed by those you oppose, which may help convince OTHER people not to patronize those establishments or give them any money. None of that means the government should close them down, though. That is a line that cannot be crossed without entering despot territory.

A minor “adjustment ” here in the wording of your quote of Mr. Voltaire… “Even though I hate what you say, I will defend to YOUR death your right to say it?”
That’s what free speech is. No censorship, period, is acceptable. After you and your opinion are dead … what difference does it make, Hillary ??

No, the “defend to the death” language is in the original quote (which Voltaire did not actually say; it is a quote attributed to him in a loosely biographical novel written by one Evelyn Beatrice Hall) and means to imply that the defender of free speech (i.e. the person who says this, epitomized by Voltaire) will defend to HIS OWN death the right of SOMEONE ELSE to engage in free speech. Which, BTW, is exactly what American GIs who fought against Nazism and Communism did. Saying that you would defend someone else’s right to free speech until THAT person died, makes no sense at all. After that person dies, THEY ARE NOT GOING TO SAY ANYTHING MORE. Right?

The government enforces quality control, weights and measure standards, sanitation practices and a plethora of other encumbrances on individual’s rights and freedoms. But, no one has the right to not be offended, it is the government’s job to protect society, not manipulate it.

There needs to be co-ordinated attack on SPLC Legally , politically , socially to expose them as hate group and then go after all those who fund them.

When citizens are organised , aware and willing to fight this using social, Legal methods its possible to win against the Islamonazis just as Parents of san diego school did http://tinyurl.com/y8yzso88

Its a lesson on how to fight back and win. Its far more difficult in Europe due to Pro-islam Left/liberal Loons running the govt.

Any non deranged, self loathing, left wing regressive zombie (i.e not a ‘Democrat’), that is interviewed in a MSM setting and is confronted with a SPLC quote or “data”, should immediately and categorically state that the SPLC is a radical, partisan hate group with out legitimacy, there for he rejects any finding or claim coming from that group

If all or at least majority of conservatives will respond in this manner, the SPLC will eventually lose it’s relevancy as point of reference, a benchmark, a source or even a talking point

If the MSM will be confronted by a united front of SPLC denunciation / derision, they will be forced to drop the SPLC as one of their sharp pointed weapons in their decades long, shameless anti-American propaganda campaign

My tax dollars help fund (against my consent) one of the more notorious of these main stream media supporters of the SPLC. Public Broadcasting Service’s Newshour features speakers of the SPLC frequently, most often alone and unchallenged. Newshour reported on every shooting of a white cop of a black whether innocent (Philando Castille) or guilty (Michael Brown), but not a single segment on Justine Damond’s murder. It just doesn’t fit the progressives’ narrative.
