House Majority Whip Steve Scalise was shot in the hip, along with several congressional aides, during a charity baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia.
And get this: One of the Republicans leaving the field, Rep. Ron DeSantis, said he was asked by a man if it was Republicans or Democrats playing — and then, coincidentally enough, three minutes later, the shooting began.

The gunman was shot by Capitol Police at the field. But his name — or motivation — isn’t yet released.
Still, this from Fox News:
“Rep. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., told Fox News he left just before the shooting. As he walked to his car, a man asked DeSantis if it was Republicans or Democrats practicing. About three minutes the shooting began, DeSantis said.
“The shooting began at 7:15 a.m. and lasted about 10 minutes, sources told Fox News.
“Behind third base, I see a rifle…I hear Steve Scalise over near 2nd base scream,” Brooks told CNN.
“The shots were reported on East Monroe Street in Del Ray, Alexandria police said on Twitter at 7:30 a.m. The location was near a YMCA.”

Scalise is in stable condition, at George Washington University Hospital.
“The vice president and I are aware of the shooting incident in Virginia and are monitoring developments closely,” said President Donald Trump, in a statement. “We are deeply saddened by this tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with the members of Congress, their staffs, Capitol police, first responders and all others affected.”
Rep. Mo Brooks said he saw several congressmen and staffers spread on the ground, at least one wounded. He actually used a belt as a tourniquet to stop the flow of blood in one of the victim’s.
From CNN:
“He said the shooter appeared to be a white male but added that “I saw him for a second or two.” He said the shooter was behind the third base dugout and didn’t say anything.
“‘The gun was a semiautomatic,’ Brooks said, adding that he was sure it was a rifle but unsure what kind. ‘It continued to fire at different people. You can imagine, all the people on the field scatter.'”
