More American Jews Who Support BDS: Susie & Michael Gelman, Arnold Hiatt & the Leichtag Foundation

There is a long evil partnership between crossover executives of The New Israel Fund, (who support BDS) and the UJA. Alisa Doctoroff, President of the UJA-Federation of New York, is a major donor to the New Israel Fund (NIF), as revealed in their annual report.

Doctoroff has proudly recounted spending time with a Palestinian Muslim family, gushing over so-called “non-violent activism.” She funds an organization devoted to placing Muslim teachers in Jewish schools, and other values which are radically left-wing. That is the President of UJA-Federation.

She’s not alone. “After nearly four years as a senior vice president at The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles, Jonathan Jacoby” rejoined New Israel Fund in 2014. As the LA Jewish Journal reported at the time, Jacoby is “…following in the footsteps of a number of current NIF leaders who were previously Jewish Federation professionals. Sokatch was executive director of Federation’s Bay Area office for 14 months before joining NIF. Board President Brian Lurie also served as the Bay Area director for 17 years, and board member Jeffrey Solomon was previously the COO of UJA-Federation of New York.”

Too many shared values between UJA leaders and the leaders of NIF.  Who are the other self-hating Jews who help fund New Israel’s war on Israel, which supports BDS, works against Israel at the United Nations and weakens the Israel Defense Forces?

Six-figure donors to the New Israel Fund Include:

The Leichtag Foundation: This San Diego based organization hosts programs devoted to social entrepreneurship in coastal North San Diego County and Jerusalem. The organization gives away millions of dollars, and maintains a 67-acre ranch in Encinitas, which supports programs and educational activities at the Ranch.

The Irving Harris Foundation: The Irving Harris Foundation gives to early childhood education, museums, hospitals, and housing development. Harris’s true passion was improving the lives of children. Mr. Harris funded Project Head Start, the Erikson Institute, and the Ounce of Prevention Fund. He founded the Project on Professional Development and Social Policy for Children and Families at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem (Harris Foundation Hebrew University Project) and they gave a $10 million grant to support Harris School of Public Policy at U Chicago. It supports Van Leer Jerusalem Institute, a liberal center that focuses on advanced studies in Jewish Culture and Identity, Israeli Civil Society, and Mediterranean Neighbors.  His wife, Joan is on the Advisory Council of J-Street.

Susie and Michael Gelman: They chaired the General Assembly of the Jewish Federations of North America in 2003 and 2013. They give to Keshet, a group that advocates for Jewish organizations and communities to be inclusive of LGBT policy, programming, culture, and leadership and where Jews of all sexual orientations and gender identities can live fully integrated Jewish lives.

Arnold Hiatt: Part of the Robert and Myra Kraft family, Arnold Hiatt is the nephew of philanthropist Jacob Hiatt, and is the founder of Stride Rite shoes. The family is responsible for the Jacob Hiatt Magnet School, the Frances L. and Jacob Hiatt Learning Center at the Jewish Community Center and the Frances and Jacob Hiatt Holocaust Collection, at the College of the Holy Cross’s Dinand Library.
