From Ally to Enemy: UK Announces Boycott Of Israel

In a breathtaking act of shocking act of appeasement, the UK has signaled its willingness to betray the very foundations of democracy and Western freedom and civilization itself. by announcing a boycott of Israel. This isn’t diplomacy—it’s surrender.

This isn’t diplomacy—it is a government punishing Israel and rewarding those committed to its destruction. Britain has abandoned its ally, emboldened its enemies and made itself a menace to the civilized world.

There are few spectacles more disgusting than someone who announces that “as a Jew” he is taking vicious action that will actively harm the Jewish people.

In the House of Commons today, the UK’s Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband used this contemptible formulation when announcing the punishment of the state of Israel through trade sanctions against the “settlements”.

These are the communities of Israeli Jews that have developed in the ancient Jewish homeland of Judea and Samaria known in Britain as the “West Bank,” and who are the victims of a campaign of mass character assassination in Britain and the west as the latest strategy to destroy the world’s only Jewish state.

Miliband thus follows a tragically long line of people of Jewish origin who, throughout the centuries, have done the Jew-exterminators’ dirty work for them by inciting the mob to murderous frenzy against the Jewish people.

There is, alas, no shortage of such people today — the left-wing “as a Jew” antizionist enemies of the Jewish people who were amongst those consulted by Miliband to help craft his vicious and defamatory falsehoods.

It’s been pointed out that, despite Miliband’s attempt to distance this boycott from the BDS (Boycott Divestment and Sanctions) movement whose declared aim is the destruction of Israel, the move will amount to a full Israel boycott because of the impossibility of differentiating between products from the “settlements” and those produced by other Israelis.

But the real issue is that the whole thing is based on ignorant and malevolent lies and distortions, behaviour directed at no other country, people or cause on earth.

That makes it a form of Jew hate, a fresh iteration of the pattern that’s manifested itself through the centuries of whipping up a hysterical frenzy against the Jews by painting them as uniquely demonic as a prelude to their destruction.

Casting the Jewish state in this light has all but consumed the Labour party for years, an unhinged obsession that’s now reached a fever pitch of derangement.

The lies and distortions that have been pouring out of Miliband like an unstoppable geyser of poison are jaw-dropping.

In the Commons, he accused the “settlers” of ethnic cleansing by attacking local Palestinian Arabs to drive them out of their homes.

As I have written elsewhere, there is a serious but numerically very small problem of delinquent and troubled Israeli Jewish boys, some of whom don’t even live in the “settlements”, who deliberately attack local Arabs and the IDF because they hate both Arabs and the Jewish state itself.

This violence by “settlers” is vastly exceeded by thousands of attacks on Jews by Arabs. Among supposed incidents of “settler violence”, many actually consist of Jews defending themselves against Arab attack. Or they’re stunts staged by antizionist extremists, both foreign and Israeli, who provoke violence by local Jewish farmers or the IDF and then post doctored videos on social media to support their false claims that both “settlers” and soldiers are engaged in unprovoked attacks.

Miliband himself presented precisely such a falsehood to the Commons. Claiming that “settler terrorism is rampant,” he took as an example events last week in the village of al-Mughayyir, 20 miles north of Jerusalem.

There, he said, “settlers have encircled the village and mounted a campaign of intimidation, largely under the protection of the Israeli military…In the same community, just last week, two teenagers were shot when settlers entered the village under police and military escort”.

But the Israelis have produced a rather different account of those events. The Times of Israel, which is generally hostile to the settlers, reported:

The IDF says that a deadly incident last night in the West Bank village of al-Mughayyir took place while troops were securing the return of livestock belonging to Israeli civilians. Two Palestinians were killed by gunfire, according to the Palestinian Authority Health Ministry, after troops and settlers were seen in video clips entering the village in the Ramallah area.

Responding to a Times of Israel inquiry, the IDF says that troops “secured the entry of Judea and Samaria District Police officers and a civilian into the village. The entry was secured for the purpose of retrieving livestock belonging to Israeli civilians that had been located in the area of the village. The animals were identified based on distinguishing marks indicating that they belonged to Israeli civilians”. While that was happening, the IDF says, “a violent riot developed in the area, during which terrorists hurled concrete blocks and stones at the troops. The troops responded by firing at key instigators in order to remove the threat. Hits were identified.”

Miliband’s core claim is that the “settlements” are illegal and the “occupation” of these disputed territories is unlawful. This is ignorant, false and absurd.

These areas of Judea and Samaria were part of ancient Israel. The world body that preceded the UN designated them, along with Gaza, for settlement by the Jews alone to restore the Jewish homeland — because the Jews are the only people for whom the holy land was ever their national kingdom.

Customary international law holds that the boundaries of a colonial territory form the boundaries of the state that may subsequently emerge from it. Judea and Samaria were part of Mandatory Palestine from which the State of Israel emerged. To claim that the Jews have unlawfully occupied or have settled illegally in their own land is therefore ridiculous.

It’s the British government that’s actually demanding the ethnic cleansing of Jews from their land and punishing Israel for not bowing to this demand.

The government continually claims that the “settlements” are destroying the possibility of a state of Palestine and thus thwarting the “two-state solution”. Why? Why can’t there be Jews living in a state of Palestine?

And if the government really thinks that only a state of Palestine can end the Middle East impasse, why doesn’t it sanction the Palestinian Authority? The PA has made a Palestine state an unconscionable proposition for any civilised person to propose, because it continues to pay large “pay-for-slay” rewards to the families of terrorists who murder Jews and teaches Palestinian Arab children that murdering Jews is their highest calling.

Why doesn’t Miliband “as a proud British Jew” who says he is “unwavering” in his support for Israel care about any of that? Why does he want instead to punish the Palestinian Arabs’ Jewish victims?

Why is he, as a “proud British Jew” who is “unwavering” in his support for Israel, demanding the ethnic cleansing of Jews to create a state for people committed to a genocidal agenda which would leave Jerusalem, Ben Gurion airport and the whole of central Israel at their mercy?

The benighted UK government is reportedly spinning all this to the Trump administration as “largely symbolic” and with no material impact on the UK’s wider relationship with Israel on trade or security.

Oh really? Britain is heavily dependent on Israeli intelligence which is essential for its own security. In their list of retaliatory measures against Britain, the Israelis haven’t mentioned the option of withholding that intelligence provision from its most treacherous ally.
