The relationship between the two leaders has faced its share of issues in recent months, but Tuesday’s meeting went well.
At the end of the meeting with President Trump, Prime Minister Netanyahu said: “We had an excellent meeting; we have full partnership with an understanding on the shared goal that there will be no nuclear weapon for Iran and also other goals, one of the best conversations I have had with the US President.” (here)

Times of Israel: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the White House Tuesday for his first in-person talks with US President Donald Trump since the Iran war began in February, with the meeting being described by Netanyahu as “excellent” and “one of the best we’ve ever had.” The meeting took place behind closed doors and without a press conference afterwards…. Netanyahu was quick to temper any suggestions that he and Trump were on bad terms, saying shortly after the meeting: “It was a meeting with full cooperation, with mutual support, with understanding on the joint goal that Iran won’t have nuclear weapons, and also other goals.” “It was one of the best conversations I’ve had with our friend, US President Trump,” Netanyahu insisted, and “an opportunity to exchange ideas, and also to coordinate on things that are important for the security and for the future of Israel” (Times of Israel).

The negotiations confirmed what Netanyahu told Trump on the eve of the memorandum of understanding: he doubted it would work, but if Trump wanted to try, he was behind him. A strategy not everyone in his Cabinet was willing to back, but one that has clearly been validated. Netanyahu wouldn’t dare say it to the president explicitly, but the message is quite simple: I told you so. Which leaves the question of what comes next (Segal).
