The Muslim terrorist who attacked a Berlin pride festival yesterday was previously convicted of planning a terrorist attacked.

Bellout was released in May 2026 from youth prison. Under the terms of his parole, he was required to attend 26 “Counseling Group on Deradicalization and Extremism Prevention”sessions. He had gone to two of them.

He was due to attend his third “counseling session” tomorrow.

The suspect in the deadly van-ramming and knife attack near Berlin’s Pride parade wasn’t just known to German police as an Islamic State supporter, he had only recently been released from juvenile custody after plotting a “serious act of subversive violence.”

‘Deradicalization’ denies the Islamic doctrine of jihad (holy war in the cause of Islam.) It is a failed approach but the West clings to it like a battered spouse to her abuser.

I have long written on the inherent failures of jihad de-radicalization programs. They are doomed to failure because they do not address the root cause, the motive for holy war – Islamic texts and teachings.

These counter terror and “deradicalization” programs are nothing more than charters for surrender. Of all the absurd and ludicrous responses by leftist elites to the jihad threat, “deradicalization” ranks as the most inane. How can a program claim to address the ideological motive behind acts of war without addressing the ideology? These absurd programs are based on the idea that Islam is a Religion of Peace, and that jihad terrorists are misunderstanding it. But this is false, so the programs are a failure.

The only deradicalization center in France, for example, was closed down because of the high failure rate, which was foredoomed since it was never going to deal with motive.

Abdul Bellout was most recently convicted for “preparing a terrorist attack, attempt by means of encouragement or threat” under German Penal Code §89a. He was sentenced under youth sentencing law despite being an adult, which is common in Germany. Apparently he boasted of having contacts to ISIS. The US State department warned in 2024 about possible ISIS attacks on gay-themed events in Europe.
