Car crashes into Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, Michigan, in what police are calling an “active situation.”
According to local reports, a vehicle crashed into the Jewish synagogue before shots were fired.
Oakland County deputies say an individual purposely drove the car into the building. The car then caught on fire.

“We are aware of an active security incident at Temple Israel. Law enforcement are responding. Our Jewish agencies are currently in precautionary lockdown. We ask community members to stay away from the area at this time,” The Jewish Federation of Detroit said.

Active shooter reported at Temple Israel synagogue in Michigan after car smashes into building

Police swarmed a Jewish synagogue in Michigan following reports of an “active shooter” Thursday after a car is believed to have intentionally crashed into the building and sparked a fire, sources told The Post.
Authorities responded to the Temple Israel in West Bloomfield just before 1 p.m. following reports the vehicle had rammed the entrance of school housed in the synagogue, the sources said.
Witnesses reported hearing gunshots immediately after, according to WDIV.
It wasn’t immediately clear if the driver or cops fired the apparent shots.

Aerial footage from local outlets showed smoke wafting from the building in the aftermath.
So far, cops have only described the incident as an “active situation” and urged locals to stay away from the area.
The synagogue houses a preschool, according to its website. An update sent to parents said that all students and staff were safe following the incident.
Multiple nearby schools also went into lockdown following the alert.
No other details were immediately available.
It wasn’t immediately clear if any injuries had been reported.
“We are aware of an active security incident at Temple Israel,” the Jewish Federation of Detroit said in a statement.
“Law enforcement are responding. Our Jewish agencies are currently in precautionary lockdown. We ask community members to stay away from the area at this time.”
