The Trump administration came loaded for bear.
Treasury Secretary Bessent stressed that President Donald Trump “will always put America’s national security and Americans first,” underscoring that the administration has multiple legal authorities available to sustain its trade agenda. After the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) cannot be used to generate revenue through tariffs, officials clarified that the decision did not strike down the tariffs themselves — only the specific statute invoked. The White House said it would immediately pivot to other established trade mechanisms, including Sections 232, 301, and 122, to preserve and potentially strengthen the tariff framework. Senior adviser Stephen Miller maintained that the Court’s opinion ultimately reaffirmed the President’s underlying authority to levy tariffs, arguing the ruling simply required reliance on different legal grounds. The President signaled that the tariffs would be reissued under alternative statutory authority and, if necessary, expanded further.
Let’s be clear: the Court did not rule against this Administration’s tariffs. It only said IEEPA can’t be used to raise revenue.
We will immediately shift to other proven authorities—Sections 232, 301, and 122—to keep our tariff strategy strong.

Wait, it gets better:
US President Donald Trump says he will raise from 10 percent to 15% a temporary tariff rate on US imports from all countries, which he imposed after the US Supreme Court ruled against his signature tariff program based on an economic emergency law.
Infuriated by the high court’s ruling, Trump yesterday ordered an immediate 10% tariff on all imports, in addition to any existing tariffs. The law allows him to impose a levy of up to 15% for 150 days, although it could face legal challenges.
ADVERTISEMENTDuring that period, his administration will work on issuing new and “legally permissible” tariffs, he said. (more here….)
