In a move bearing all the unmistakable hallmarks of The Art of the Deal, President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that the United States has reached a framework agreement with NATO leadership over Greenland, reshaping Arctic security while suspending looming tariffs—leveraging economic pressure into strategic advantage for the United States and its allies.
Donald J. Trump announced that he has reached a preliminary framework with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on a future deal covering Greenland and the broader Arctic region, calling it a major strategic win for the United States and NATO allies. As part of the understanding, Trump said he will suspend planned tariffs set to take effect February 1 while negotiations continue, including talks related to the “Golden Dome” defense concept for Greenland. According to reporting by the Wall Street Journal, discussions are expected to focus on expanded U.S. basing rights in Greenland, stronger European Arctic security commitments, and a U.S. right of first refusal on Greenland’s mineral investments to block Russian and Chinese influence. Trump said negotiations will be led by Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, reporting directly to him as talks advance.
🚨 Byron York nails Trump’s Greenland play: Classic Art of the Deal!
“He asks for ten times what he wants, the other side freaks out, huge news cycle, back & forth, then they settle for what they could’ve had day one.”

Trump on Wednesday: Based upon a very productive meeting that I have had with the Secretary General of NATO, Mark Rutte, we have formed the framework of a future deal with respect to Greenland and, in fact, the entire Arctic Region. This solution, if consummated, will be a great one for the United States of America, and all NATO Nations. Based upon this understanding, I will not be imposing the Tariffs that were scheduled to go into effect on February 1st. Additional discussions are being held concerning The Golden Dome as it pertains to Greenland. Further information will be made available as discussions progress. Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and various others, as needed, will be responsible for the negotiations — They will report directly to me (Truth).
What will it look like?
Speculation from the Wall Street Journal: Officials in Europe said they expect negotiations with the U.S. over Greenland to focus on four main areas…. They include a potential U.S. agreement with Denmark about stationing forces at bases in Greenland and expanded European efforts to boost security around the Arctic. The U.S. could receive a right of first refusal on investments in Greenland’s mineral resources—a veto aimed at preventing Russia and China from tapping the island’s wealth—and in exchange Trump would take tariff threats off the table, the officials said (Wall Street Journal).
So the new deal is …
1) Denmark has to keep paying the population of Greenland $600 million per year.
2) USA gets sovereignty over whichever parts we want for US military bases
3) USA gets mineral rights
4) China and Russia aren't allowed in Greenland
5) Cost $0.00 pic.twitter.com/gxDWj5MW7e

Beege Welborn at Hot Air: This is just the most glorious thing. For too many years, the World Economic Forum (WEF) gathering at Davos has been a kiss-the-ring of Klaus gathering of upper-crusty, dystopian-fever-dream elites, and has fed the pretensions of insufferable blowhard Brahmins like the John Kerrys of the world (Hot Air).
NATO General Secretary Mark Rutte—and former Prime Minister of the Netherlands: When it comes to the Arctic, I think President Trump is right. Other leaders in NATO are right. We need to defend Arctic. We know that the sea lanes are opening up. We know that China and Russia are increasingly active in the Arctic. There are eight countries bordering on the Arctic. Seven are a member of NATO, that’s Finland, and Sweden, and Norway, and Denmark, Iceland, Canada, and the US. And there’s only one country bordering on the Arctic outside NATO, and that’s Russia. And I would argue there is a ninth country which is China, which is increasingly active in the Arctic region. So: President Trump and other leaders are right. We have to do more there. We have to protect the Arctic against Russian and Chinese influence. And that’s exactly what NATO ambassadors decided to do in September. We are working on that, making sure that collectively will we defend the Arctic region (Coolidge).
