Fox News reports that the Trump administration has ended Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Somali nationals. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem said conditions in Somalia have improved and that keeping TPS in place is “contrary to our national interests,” emphasizing that “temporary means temporary.”
Who it affects:
About 2,471 Somali nationals currently holding TPS will lose that protection and must depart or secure another legal status by March 17.

This impacts only a small fraction of the roughly 260,000 people of Somali descent living in the U.S., most of whom are citizens or permanent residents.

Fox news reports that the Trump Administration has ended Temporary Protected Status for Somalis here in the US.

“Temporary means temporary,” DHS Secretary Kristi Noem told Fox News Digital in a statement. “Country conditions in Somalia have improved to the point that it no longer meets the law’s requirement for Temporary Protected Status.”
“Further, allowing Somali nationals to remain temporarily in the United States is contrary to our national interests,” Noem added. “We are putting Americans first.”
