Harvard Publishes Piece: Shun the Jews

25

Harvard has now published an astonishing piece titled, “Should I Let Go of My Zionist Friends?”—a headline that would have been unthinkable a generation ago, yet today passes as respectable campus discourse. This is not mere academic navel-gazing; it is the normalization of Jew-hatred, the methodical dehumanization of the Jewish people, the very pattern that historically precedes catastrophe. We’ve seen this playbook before.

The inquiry was submitted to the “Amateur Ethicist,” and the answer is nothing short of chilling: Yes—go ahead. Drop your Zionist friends.

No complexity. No humanity. According to the published response, “Friendship is volitional… we are always entitled to choose to end a friendship.” The implication is unmistakable: ostracizing Jews with the “wrong” political identity is not only permissible—it’s morally sanctioned.

Rabbi Jason Rubenstein, executive director of Harvard Hillel, said he was “shocked,” warning that this is exactly the kind of shunning, ostracization, and demonization of Zionist Jews and Israelis that Jewish students have been enduring for years. He’s right. A 2024 national survey funded by the Jim Joseph Foundation found that one in five non-Jewish Americans doesn’t want to be friends with a Zionist. Harvard’s op-ed isn’t an anomaly — it’s a reflection of a growing, national hostility.

It was a letter to the “Amateur Ethicist.” What Harvard just greenlit is not “ethics.” It is the intellectual laundering of bigotry. And history has shown us where this road leads.

The answer is chilling:

‘If what you are asking is whether you are justified in letting go of your Zionist friends, then the matter is simple. The answer is yes. Remember: Because friendship is volitional by definition, we are never obligated to be friends with someone. Friendship depends on active choices, and we are always entitled to choose to end a friendship (Crimson).

JNS: Rabbi Jason Rubenstein, executive director of Harvard Hillel, said he was “shocked” …. “This is exactly the kind of shunning, ostracization, demonization” of “Zionist Jews and Israelis that we’ve been speaking out against, working against for the last two years,” Rubenstein said…. Rubenstein said the op-ed reflects a broader trend nationwide. A 2024 report funded by the Jim Joseph Foundation found that one in five non-Jewish respondents did not want to be friends with a Zionist (JNS).
