Federal prosecutors in Virginia’s Eastern District are preparing to present evidence to a grand jury against former FBI Director James Comey, accusing him of perjury in his 2020 Senate testimony denying authorization of leaks about his interactions with President Trump. The effort, driven by President Trump’s pressure on Attorney General Pam Bondi, follows the replacement of a resistant U.S. Attorney with Lindsey Halligan, despite career prosecutors’ concerns over evidence sufficiency. The five-year statute of limitations expires on September 30, 2025, adding urgency to the case centered on internal FBI records and declassified documents.

Former FBI Director James Comey is expected to be indicted in the Eastern District of Virginia in the coming days, MSNBC reported on Wednesday, citing three sources. “The full extent of the charges being prepared against Comey is unclear, but the sources believe that at least one element of the indictment—if it goes forward–will accuse him of lying to Congress during his testimony on September 30, 2020 about whether he authorized a leak of information,” a MSNBC reporter wrote on X (Salem News Channel).
