New details have emerged on the incident at a bakery in Strasbourg, France.
On April 12 here was the weekly Saturday anti-Israel demonstration consisting of hundreds of people going by the bakery. Several visitors from Israel were sitting outside the boulangerie (bakery) Dreher, and one of them insulted people in the passing demonstration and gave them “the finger”. A lady demonstrator came to attack him, and there may have been a brief scuffle between them. Three policemen stopped it right away. At least one of the Israelis had taken refuge in the establishment, and that one Israeli then joined them. The policemen blocked the entrance and told the demonstrators to back away, which they did, continuing their march without further incident.
So, while the story is still crazy, it doesn’t involve an attack on a Jewish bakery. Apparently the news of the incident traveled very fast, with politicians weighing in, before the situation was clarified. The bakery owner was quoted as saying that they have no links to any conflict, they’re not Jewish or Israeli, they’re one of a chain of 15 bakeries in Germany and three in Strasbourg….
