Harvard Has Become an Outpost of Islamic Jihad

Harvard is now trying to defend their treatment of Jews before the nation’s highest court.

What is Harvard arguing? Harvard wants the right to violate the Civil Rights Act of 1964. It is that simple.

“If Harvard shirks its responsibility to shore up the foundations of America and allows itself to be hijacked by an Islamist-inspired grievance coalition, why would it expect any support from the government?” Ruth Wisse

Hugh Hewitt: Harvard is going to have to argue in federal court —one way or another— that the courts pay no attention to the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that sits behind the curtain over there outside of the court’s view. Similarly, Harvard is going to have to argue the Supreme Court precedents of Bob Jones University v. U.S. (1983) and Students for Fair Admission v Harvard (2023), which are also back there behind the drapes, are similarly not properly before the courts…. Harvard has an unbroken record of ignoring the nation’s keystone anti-discrimination statute for years and years with regard to at least Asian American applicants before the horrific massacre of 10/7 and by tolerating anti-Semitism since then (FoxNews). Ruth Wisse: Oct. 7, like Kristallnacht in 1938, forced some people to confront what they had tried to ignore. Students and faculty celebrating the atrocities against Israel could have been perpetrating them, given the chance. A committee of the new Harvard Jewish Alumni Alliance investigated the campus “hatred” and found it “worse than we had anticipated” (WSJ).

Editor’s note: Why the use of “Islamist” as opposed to “Islamic”? Because the person speaking doesn’t want to offend Islam by speaking unwelcome truths about the political nature of the religion.

The term “Islamist” is in common use to refer to Muslim individuals and organizations that adhere to Islamic law’s political aspects (most notably its denial of any legitimacy of a separation between religion and the state) and consequently most fiercely oppose America, Israel and the West in general. The implication is that Islam itself, in its authentic form, has no requisite political aspect, and no incompatibility with Western values or democratic government.

The problem with this is that it is a Western, artificial distinction, imposed by non-Muslims upon the Islamic world and lacking any real substance with reference to Islamic law as it has always been formulated by the Sunni and Shi’ite madhahib (schools of jurisprudence). Islam has always been political, and the union of religion and the state has always been essential to its political program; the idea that all this can and should be separated from Islam proper is the wishful thinking of Western analysts who do not wish to face the implications of the fact that these ideas represent mainstream Islamic thinking. Harvard Is an Islamist Outpost

For decades it nurtured resentful leftists, and antisemitism united them in a common cause.

By Ruth R. Wisse,  Wall Street Journal,April 24, 2025:

The chickens come home to roost for elite universities.

I taught at Harvard from 1993 through 2014, and I don’t think the federal government’s threats will be effective at changing the university’s culture. Harvard’s leaders don’t yet understand the danger that culture poses to the country or why it required intervention.
