BOOM: EU Proposes Zero-for-Zero Tariff Plan to President Trump, Trump Counters – They Also Have to Buy $350 Billion Worth of US Energy

The European Union on Monday proposed a ‘zero-for-zero’ tariff plan to the U.S. The offer was made by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, following President Donald Trump last week placing a 20% tariff on the EU… Meanwhile, the EU’s 27 trade ministers met in Luxembourg to discuss the U.S. measures and to come up with an alternative plan (Just the News).

After the EU proposed a ‘zero for zero’ tariff agreement with the United States yesterday, President Trump countered – they must also buy $350 billion worth of US energy to get tariff relief.

At a White House press conference, Trump rejected Brussels’ “zero-for-zero” offer on car and industrial goods tariffs:

“No, it’s not enough… We have a deficit with the European Union of $350 billion and it’s gonna disappear fast.”

Trump said that deficit could be wiped out immediately if the EU buys an equivalent amount of U.S. energy:

“They can buy it… we can knock off $350 billion in one week.”

The ultimatum follows Trump’s announcement of 20% tariffs on the EU and minimum 10% tariffs on other trade partners, moves that have rocked global markets.

He also blasted the EU’s regulatory barriers, calling them “non-monetary tariffs” that block U.S. products through red tape and impossible standards.

On top of which, almost 70 countries have now approached Trump wanting to help rebalance global trade.

The European Union says they’re ready to negotiate with the United States, says they’ve offered zero for zero tariffs. The announcement was made by European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen. “Europe is always ready for a good deal. So we keep it on the table,” she said. Von der Leyen added the EU “offered zero for zero tariffs for industrial goods, … because Europe is always ready for good deal” (X).

Charlie Kirk: The market has quickly reversed, wiping out losses and moving rapidly into positive territory, presumably on news the EU is willing to negotiate zero for zero tariffs with the US (X).
