For two hundred years, there was no Department of Education, until one of America’s worst Presidents, Jimmy Carter, created it.
And what have we to show for it? Unimaginable fraud, waste and corruption, not to mention that our children rank lowest among industrialized nations. They can barely read or meet any math standards.
We’ve spent a trillion taxpayer dollars since the founding of the Department of Education but scores are abysmal.

They destroyed the greatest education system in the world.

White House Press Secretary Leavitt: “Where was their criticism of our nation’s failing test scores for the last several decades? The Department of Education was founded in the 1970s, and since then, we have spent more than $3 trillion at this federal bureaucracy. What has been the return on that investment for the American taxpayer? Levels that are less than ideal, less than proficient. Our children’s test scores are incredibly concerning when it comes to reading rates, literacy rates, math and science test scores. The numbers prove that.”

Donald Trump Signs Executive Order to Dismantle the Department of Education

President Donald Trump signed a major executive order on Thursday to “begin eliminating” the Department of Education, “once and for all.” HThe signing came as the president gave remarks on education for this “historic event.”
Such a move was previewed on Wednesday evening, though Trump also signaled he would return the issue of education back to the states before officially taking office for his second term, when he announced he would be selecting Linda McMahon as his secretary of education, who has since been confirmed. It was a goal that the president again reaffirmed on Thursday. Trump introduced McMahon during his remarks as the woman he hopes will be the last secretary in such a position. Republican governors from several states were also in attendance for the event as “people very interested in education,” as was Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick (R-TX), members of Congress, and state attorneys general.
