Jihad in Thailand: Wave of Ramadan Attacks Rock the Nation

What do they want? An Islamic state, of course. This peaceful Buddhist country has been rocked by a campaign of terror and carnage. The attached news stories are a reminder that attacks by Muslim terrorists in Thailand remain remain a threat to the nation. Jihadis have murdered thousands in Thailand’s south.

Who can credibly say that jihad is not a world-wide ideology and behavior responsible for unceasing violence and death?

Bombs and shootings rocked Sungai Kolok municipality in Narathiwat province on Saturday 8th March . Reports said three locations in the city were bombed, but later details emerged of a fourth attack, an explosion at a traffic island behind Maharat Stadium that caused no injuries.

The bombs and shooting at the district office about 7.10pm killed two and injured at least eight defence volunteers. Four civilians were also cofirmed wounded by the black-clad Islamists

In total, the attacks claimed the lives of five security personnel and volunteers, while injuring 13 others

Malaysia has tightened security along its border with Thailand following a Islamic attacks in the neighbouring nation.

Bangkok Post is reporting: “Black-clad insurgents spread chaos in Sungai Kolok border city on Saturday night, throwing bombs and shooting at the district office, killing two defence volunteers, wounding 11 others and detonating explosives beside a railway track and outside a mall.

A security patrol was also attacked in adjoining Pattani province, leaving one ranger dead and wounding two local officials.

Security officials have placed Narathiwat province on high alert for more violence.

A pickup fully loaded with armed men wearing black Islamic Dawah clothing stopped outside the Sungai Kolok district office at 7.10pm.

The attackers dismounted, threw bombs at the office building and sprayed bullets at security volunteers on duty, and then sped off in the same vehicle they arrived in. They also detonated explosives hidden in a car and a motorcycle parked outside the district office compound.”

Malaysia has advised its citizens to put off plans to visit southern Thailand following bombings and gunfire in the Thai border city of Sungai Kolok, a popular destination for Malaysians, and in Pattani.

Six people were injured in a pipe bomb attack at a road-railway crossing in Muang district, Yala province on Wednesday evening.

CCTV footage showed two men on motorcycles throwing two pipe bombs onto Pad Rotfai Road in Sateng subdistrict as motorists were waiting for the traffic light to change. Only one of the bombs exploded.

The blast damaged a trailer truck and injured six people, who were rushed to Yala Hospital, police said.

In neighbouring Pattani province, two CCTV cameras in Sai Buri and Panare districts were destroyed by fire on Wednesday night in a suspected attempt by insurgents to mask their preparations for future attacks, a local security officer said.

Police said perpetrators set fire to tyres stacked at the base of CCTV poles at Hutakolae Intersection in Trobon, Sai Buri district, and in front of Ban Tro Hak Hospital in Ban Nam Bo, Panare district.

More attacks:

Two defence volunteers were killed, eleven others, including three civilians, were injured when about a dozen southern insurgents launched a surprise grenade and gun attack on the Su-ngai Kolok district office on Saturday night.

Separately, in the Sai Buri district of Pattani, three para-military rangers were killed and one other was injured in an explosion near a road intersection late last night, following an armed attack on a ranger unit a few hours earlier.

According to the Narathiwat provincial public relations office, the insurgents, most of them dressed in black, arrived at the district office in a pickup truck and sedan at about 9.30pm. They then proceeded to throw hand grenades and open fire with their assault rifles, all aimed at the office manned by about a dozen defence volunteers.

After the attack they sped away.

Police reported three more explosions in the district and one rigged LPG cylinder was found on a road behind a school.
